No. 543,886. Patented Aug. 6, 1895.
JACKSON H. MCLAIN, OF PURSLEY, TEXAS.
CULTlVATOR OR PLOW STANDARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,886, dated August 6, 1895.
Application filed August 4, 1894. Renewed June 18, 1895. $erial No. 553,237. (No model) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Jackson H. MOLAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pursley, in the county of Navarro and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivator or Plow Standards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to improve the standard which connects the shoe or landside of a sweep-shovel or-bull-tongue plow with the beam, so as to render it fixed and secure at any point of adjustment.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view showing my invention applied; Fig. 2, a detailed view of the standard, and Fig. 3 a detail view of the shoe.
In the drawings, A represents the handles; B, the beam; 0, the standard; D, the rear brace; E, the sweep-shovel connected by the bolt and nute c with the standard, and F the shoe which slides along upon the ground. This shoe is provided with the slots f f, through which pass the bolts f which, by means of the nuts f hold the standard adjustably to the shoe.
The standard 0 has at its lower end a horizontal rear arm 0, to allow the two bolts f to be in the same horizontal plane, or thereabout, so that the shoe cannot be displaced vertically and thereby affect thepitch of the plow.
The standard 0 is formed of parallel vertical metallic straps connected by the rivets c 0, between which rests the plow-beam B, the pivot-bolt 0 which passes loosely through the front eye of the rear brace D, and the bolts f which permit the horizontal adjustment of the shoe. By unclamping the pivotbolt 0 the standard may be moved forward or back on the beam, so as to regulate the pitch of the shoe and plow. The sweep-shovel has its front, end under anotch f of the shoe, while its rear upper edge rests in a notch c of the standard, so that the shovel cannot possibly work up with the bolt e, whereby the shovel would soon become laterally displaced. The shoe has but a limited horizontal adjust ment in connection with the standard.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, 'is- In shovel plows or cultivators, the combination with the shoe F having slots ff, the
