Description

(No Model.)
W. E. SEFTON;
' PLOW. No. 543,786. Patented July 30, 1895.
Wl iaeJJer. 0&0? 7774f fwwe. @W @zwe 44 1am UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. SEFTON, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE PRINCESS PLOW COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,786, dated July 30, 1895. Application filed September 27, 1894. Serial No. 524,238- (No model.)
To allv whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. a citizen of the United States, Canton,
SEFTON, residing at in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; clare that the following exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which' Figure 1 is aside elevation of the plow. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal section of the standard and share. Fig. 3 is a front view of the share and standard. Fig. 4 is a transverse section through line a: 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the standard, showing the share removed. Fig. 6 is a detached view of the share and its attaching-arm.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings. v
The presentinvention has relation to plows especially designed and calculated for loosening cobble-stones and breaking hard crusts; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the post or standard, which is provided and I do hereby dewith the beam a, which beam is preferably formed integral with the post or standard.
The share B is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 6, and, as shown, it consists of a bar extending rearward through the bottom or lower end of the post or standard A and is extended a short distance past and beyond the rear end or edge of said post for the purpose of providing a means for properly attaching the rear end of the share by means of the clamping-bolt b, which clamping-bolt extends through the aperture 0, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
For the purpose of providing a smooth surface upon the under' edge of the share the nut or head of the bolt 17 is seated into the recess d. The front or forward end of the share B is pointed, so that it will easily enter the ground as the plow proper is moved forward and elevate the material directly above the forward end or portion of the share.
For the purpose of holding the share 13 in proper position with reference to the post or is a full, clear,'and' standard A the arm e is provided, which arm is formed integral with the share and is so located that when the share is placed in proper position its front edge will extend a short distance beyond-the front edge of the post A and is, provided with an edge to assist in part-' ing the material as the plow is moved forward.
For the purpose of assisting in holding the share B in proper position the bottom or lower portion of the .post or standard A is provided with the groove 0, the front or forward portion of said groove being extended upward to receive the rear portion of the arm e, as shown in Fig. 2. For the purpose of preventing accidental displacement of the share B the clampingbolt f is provided, which clamping-bolt is extended through the post or standard A and the arm e.
For the purpose of holding the rear end of the share Bin proper position the clampingboltb is provided, which clamping-bolt is secured to said share and to the post or standard A.
' For the purpose of providing a means for attaching the handles g the arm 9 is provided, which arm is cast or formed integral with the post or standard.
For the purpose of protecting the handles 9 from injury as the plow proper is drawn upon its side the curved barsh are provided and are located and arranged substantiallyas illustrated in Fig. 1.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the post or standard A provided with a beam, and the groove 0, extended upward in the front portion of the post or standard, the shareB, provided with the arm e, and extended forward and rear ward of the post,-and the clamping bolt 1), and means for securing the arm e to the post or standard, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. SEFTON.
