SPECIFIGATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 548,457, dated July 30, 1895 Application filed March 1, 1895. Serial No. 540,245. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern" Be it known that I, THOMAS H. BENNETT, a

citizen of the United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolster-Standards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to bolster-standards.

It has for its object to provide a device-of this character which, when secured to the bolster, will prevent the'same from splitting or cracking, and to provide a standard which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and which may be easily applied.

With these objects in.view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be here.-

In the drawings, Figure l isa perspective view of my improved standard, showing it applied to a bolster. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same.

1 denotes the wagon-bolster, and 2 the standard, cast with a rectangular frame 3, which is fitted to the end of the bolster and provided with an upper outwardly-projecting lip 4 and a lower inwardly-projecting lip 5. Each of these lips is provided with a bolt-hole, as are also the sides of the box, to receive the bolt or screws 6, 7, and 8, by means of which the less until another bolster is provided, to do which not only incurs a considerable expense,

but also consumes time. i

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,

the operation and advantages of my invention will be apparent. V

The standard may be cast complete and may be placeduponthe market'at a very low figure, thus placing it within reachof all.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, isr The combination with a bolster recessed in its upper and lower sides, of a standard having at lower end an integral rectangular box with bolt holesthrough its sides, and upward forward and lower rearward projecting integral lips having bolt holes, saidlips fitting said recesses, and screws or the like for securing the box to the bolster, substantially as set forth.
