SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,388, dated July 23, 1895. Application filed May 6, 1895- Serial No. 548,322. (No model.)

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLMER D. LLOYD, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver I do hereby declare the following to be afull,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon, which form a specification.

This invention relates to the stands by means of which barrels used as storing-vessels in retail trade are supported and swung in and out from under a storecounter in the operations of such trade; and it consists in the hereinafter-described improvements in the details of the construction and arrangement of such a device.

- fits loosely in the aforesaid socket provided The staff is integrally or otherwise attached tothe foot, substantially centerwise of the two ends of the foot, and the head of the stafi laden foot to its place of rest and rotation. The barrel-supporting end of the aforesaidfoot is provided with a series of low steps 0, so that the lower chine of the barrel may be engaged and the barrel brought as closely to the staif as its curvature will permit; and in order to steady the barrel upon the foot, I prefer to spread the barrel end of the foot, as shown in the plan view thereof, so as to give a broad seat to the barrel.

The hook engaging the upper chine of the barrel slides freely upon the staff, to accommodate itself to the height of the barrel, and the engagement may be effected by the toe cl of the hook, or the hook may be suitably fastened to the barrel if the latter is to be in use for a long time.

The aforementioned socket is provided with a long slotted ofiset e, and through the slot screws or other suitable fastenings are passed I to attach the socket to the under face of the store-counter beneath which the barrel is to be stored. By means of the long slot, and by curving and dropping the socket, as shown in the side View thereof, the said socket is so loosely and adj ustably, though efficiently,attached to the counter that it is not only easy to insert the head of the. staff in the socket, but to accommodate the barrel-stand, when made of standard height, to any counter that might happen to exceed by a few inches the v customary elevation of store-counters.

It will readily be understood that when a laden barrel is mounted upon the foot of the stand, the latter pushed to its seat on the pivot, the hook on the staff engaged with the upper chine of the barrel and the head-of the staff placed in the socket attached to the counter, the barrel can be swung in and out, under, and from under the counter with ease and celerity, and will not be so rigidly vertical as to interfere with its free movement, use, or storage. v

I am aware that barrel-stands of the general type of construction and arrangement here shown have been previously known and used. Hence I do not mean to make any broad claim for the type, but to limit myself to the improvements that constitute. my own invention.
