HAME-TUG FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 543,240, dated July 23, 1895.

My invention is an improvement in hametug fastenings; and it consists in the novel features hereinafter fully described, reference 1- being had to the accompanying drawings,
which illustrate one form in which I have contemplated embodying myinvention, and said invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claims.

The forward end of the trace B is provided with a hook, which is adapted to engage the clip 0, and is so constructed that it cannot be accidentally disengaged therefrom. In this instance I have shown a broad hook D, hav- 5 ing a shank d, which is riveted or otherwise rigidly secured to the end of the trace B. The

inner side with a rib or projection (1 which I go term the locking-rib, which bears against the hame-tug, and thus causes the latter to press the hook outwardly and hold it in engagement with one of the cross-bars c of the clip 0.
In putting the parts together'the clip will be placed on the hame-tug with its lugs c in engagement with certain of the perforations a c. of the same. The hook D of the trace will then be passed beneath the rear cross-bar c of the clip and then under the front cross-bar c by hold-ingthe parts in the positions shown in Fig. 4.. When the parts are straightened out, as shown in Fig. 1, the hook D will engage the front crossbar c and the two parts of the tug will be firmly coupled together. As will be seen the engagement, between the hame-tug and the rib d on the inner side of the hook causes the hanne-tug to press the hook outwardly and hold it from becoming 7o disengaged from the clip.
When it is desired to lengthen or shorten the tug, the trace will be seized between the twocross-bars of the clip and pulled outwardly, as shown in Fig. 4., when the hame-tug can be disengaged from the projections of the clip and'moved so as to bring other apertures of the hame-tug into engagement with the said projections when the parts are returned to their normal positions, as shown in Fig. 1.
This improved hame-tug fastening is very simple, can be cheaply made, is very durable, and can be readily operated when desired to adjust the length of the tug.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a hametug fastening, the combination with thetug, of a clip-provided with attaching projections and a cross bar in a different plane of said projection and the trace adapted to overlie the ends of said projections and provided. with a hook for engaging said cross bar substantially as described.
2. In ahame tug fastening, the combination with the tug, of a clip provided with attach.- 5 ing projections and cross bars in a different plane from said projections, and the trace adapted to pass beneath said cross bars and to overlie the ends of said projections, said trace having a hook for engaging one of said cross bars, substantially as described.
3. In a hame tug fastening, the combination .With a hame tug, of a clip provided centrally with a face having attaching projections, and at each end with a cross bar in a different plane from said face, the trace, and a hook secured to said trace adapted to engage one of
