Description

(No Model.) 2 Sheets-Sheet 2. R. B. TERRILL.
' NOTE BOOK HOLDER.
Patented July 16, 1895.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
REUBEN B. TERRILL, OF NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT.
NOTE-BOOK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 542,784, dated July 16, 1895. Application filed January 11, 1895. Serial No. 534,566. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RE BEN B. TERRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newtown, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Note-Book Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains ,to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in note-book holders, and has for its object to provide a device of this. description which shall be very simple and inexpensive. A further object of my invention is to so construct the holder that it may be used as a cover for the note-book, and may also be used as a rest upon which the book is held when writing therein.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved holder with a note-book thereon in position for transcribing; Fig. 2, a perspective view showing the holder and note-book in position for writing therein; Fig. 3, a perspective view showing the holderas it is folded when used as a cover for the book; Fig. 4:, a vertical sectional elevation of the holder; Figs. 5 and 6, detail perspective views of the fastening devices for locking the parts of the holder in position for transcribing, and Fig. 7 a detail perspective view of the wire bale used for securing the note-book upon the holder.
Similar numbers of reference denote like the board 1 of the holder by passing a few of the last leaves of said book between the bale 6 and the face of the board 1, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings.
9 is a hollow clip secured to the back of the board 1, and 10 isa cross-shaped opening in the face of said clip.
11 is a T-headed clip secured to the board 2, and said clip 11 is adapted to engage the clip 9 to lock the holder in the position shown at Figs. 1 and 4.
12 is a hand-rest formed on the lower end of the board 2, upon which the writer may rest his fingers when inscribing the last few lines on a page of the note-book.
- 13 is a ledge on the back of the board 1. The object of this ledge is to hold the board 1 in an inclined plane when the holder is folded in the position for writing in the notebook, as shown in Fig. 2.
When not in use the holder may be folded as shown in Fig. '3, with the, note-book between the boards 1 2, thus forming a stout cover for the book, and in this position the device is converted into a very compact parcel, which may be carried by the user without the slightest inconvenience.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a note-book holder, the combination of the boards 1, 2, the links 3 which hinge said boards together, the bale 6 for holding the note-book in position and the locking-clips 9, 11, substantially as set forth.
2. In a note-book holder, the combination of the boards 1, 2, the links 3, the bale 6, and the hand-rest 12, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a note-book holder, the combination of the boards 1, 2, the links 3, the bale 6, the hand-rest 12, and the ledge 13, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- REUBEN B. TERRILL.
