PERRY FRAIZER, OF NEW CASTLE, INDIANA.
DOCUMENT FILE AND RECORD CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,189, dated July 2, 1895. pp n l January 14,1895. Serial n5. 584,877. (No model.)
T0 at whonm it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, PERRY FRAIZER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Castle, in the county of Henry and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Document File and Record Cabinets, of which the following is aspecification.
The invention relates to a document file and record cabinet.
The object is to produce a cabinet of this class of large carrying capacity, and to employ a simple and efiective system of indexing and recording, and thereby facilitate filing of documents.
lVith this object in view the invention consists in an improved construction and certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts, to be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same. Fig..
3 is a horizontal sectional view of the revoluble holder taken between two of the shelves. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view, in elevation, of the same. Fig. 5 is a view in plan of the record and index sheet.
In the drawings, A represents a stand or table, which is provided with a writing-slide 0!. and a sliding-drawer frame a in which are mounted two rollers a At one side the frame of the drawer is recessed to allow for the rotation of the roll-operating cranks a there being one for each roll.
a designates the record and index sheet, which is arranged so as to be wound from one roll upon the other. In the present embodiment of the invention the sheet is arranged for entries, as shown in Fig. 5. On filing a document under the name of, for example, Carroll, the sheet is woundfrom one roller upon the other untilthatportion bearing atthe left-hand margin passes to a point above the support or rest a which extends across the drawer-frame between the rollers. a being the second letter, the name Carroll is written in the first column under the heading Ca, as shownin the drawings, the initials or given name being preferably written in the second column, after which the document is filed, as will be described later on.
B represents the file-cabinet holder, which consists of a cylindrical or polygonal casing, having one or more doors b, hinged to swing open and expose the interior. The door, if desired, may be provided on its inner side with one or a series of racks for holding pens, pencils, and like articles.
C represents the file-case proper, which consists of a vertical shaft 0, stepped in suitable bearings to rotate freely within the casing, and comprises a series of approximately circular posed shaft. Extending parallel with this shaft andaligned to form compartments 0 are a series of rods a. These rods are arranged in parallel rows to form four radiallyextending diametricallyopposite compartments 0 between the shelves, the remaining spaces at the corners being each divided into three compartments 0 by parallel rows of wires 0 they being entirely separate and distinct from the compartments c Strips c serve as sides for the outer compartments 0. Thus a file-case of five tiers would contain eighty compartments, and together with its large capacity is at the same time compact and easily handled.
Referring to Fig. 4, wherein the manner of lettering the compartments is illustrated, to file the document under the name of Carroll, as above referred to, it will be placed in the upper compartment under Ca, documents under other names being entered. and filed in a similar manner.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim is- 1. A document file and record cabinet, comprising an indexed record sheet mounted on carrying rollers, the rollers being rotatably held in a suitable movable frame, and a revoluble file case consisting in a central shaft having a series of horizontally disposed shelves secured thereto, the space between 'shelves arranged one above the other, and secured to be rotated with a centrally-disthe shelves being divided into compartments the shelves being divided into compartments by a series of rods arranged vertically in parby a series of rods arranged vertically in parallel rows as'and for the purpose set forth. allel rows, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A document file and record cabinet, com-- In testimony whereof I have hereunto af- I5 5 prising an index record sheet mounted to be fixed my signature in the presence of two subwound around rollers, the rollers being rotatscribing witnesses. ably carried by a movable frame arranged to 1 r enter a desk-like base, on which is mounted PERRY a revolublefile case consisting in a central Witnesses: to shaft having a series of horizontally disposed ENOCH A. NATION, shelves secured thereto, the space between MARTIN L. KOONS.
