SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,974, dated July 2, 1895.

Be it known that we, FRANK L. LATHROP and HARRY O. H. WALSH, residents of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rings, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to rings, designed for use as curtain rings.

Our invention is mainly directed to the mode of fastening a roller or rollers to the ring to enable the ring to traverse on a curtain pole.

To this end our invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a blank of the roller-supporting frame. Fig. 2 is a side view of the roller mounted in its supporting-frame. Fig. 3 is an edge View of the roller shown in Fig. 2. Fig.4. is a detail view of a ring, showing the rollers in place; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional detail view on line 5 5 of Fig. 4.

Referring particularly to Fig. -1 it will be noted that the blankconsists of cheeks a a, each of which terminates in a guard 19 and are united one to another by a bridge 0 from which clips (I project. This blank is bent up into the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3-that is to say, the cheeks are bent away from the bridge in one direction at right angles, and in substantial parallelism the clips cl are likewise bent away from the bridge at right angles, but in the opposite direction, the said clips standing at right angles to the planes of the cheeks, as shown. The guards b are bent especially away'frorn the planes of the cheeks a laterally at right angles and are curved to cover the raw edges of the opening in the ring, as will be more fully set forth.

Extending through the supporting frame from cheek to cheek is an axle or gibf upon which is carried a roller or rollers g.

A is the ring which is hollowin the usual form of sheet metal rings.

The roller and its supporting frame are mounted in the ring as follows: The ring is cut away or apertured as at h and preferably slightly bent or flattened as at 2', which flattened portion is pierced by apertures jj. The roller and its supporting frame are inserted into the slot or opening h, the clips d being inserted through the holesjj and bent down or clinched, as shown in Figs. at and 5, thus forming a secure fastening for holding the supporting frame and roller in the ring, the guards b b serving to cover the raw edges of the slot h.

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of a ring A, a roller and a supporting frame therefor consisting of substantially parallel cheeks a a, guards b (9, extending laterally therefrom, a bridge 0 uniting the cheeks and clips at d projecting from the bridge and adapted to pass through holes j j in said ring A, substantially as de scribed.

2. The combination of a ring, a roller supported therein by a frame, the said supporting frame consisting of a bent up sheet metal blank comprising substantially parallel cheeks a a, curved guards Z) Z) projecting laterally froin the ends of the cheeks, clips at d adapted to pass through holes jj and a bridge c uniting the cheeks and the clips, substantially as described.
