FELIX ANTON MAQUET, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY.
BOTTLE-STQPPE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,623, dated June 25, 1895.
Application filed August 27, 1894. Serial No. 521,426. (No model.) Patentedin Austria-Hungary October 2,1893, No. 28,440' and No. 56,504, and in England August 9, 1894, No. 15,199.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX ANTON MAQUET, of Dresden, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Bottle-Stopper, (patented in Great Britain August 9, 1894, No. 15,199; in Austria October 2, 1893, No. 28,440, and in Hungary October 2, 1893, No. 56,504,) of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The bottle-stopper the subject of this invention is one which is applicable wherever known kinds of stoppers, as porcelain stoppers with india-rubber washers or the like, cannot, or must not, be used, and Where it is necessary to close the bottle by means of a cork. This stopper also renders the employment of tying wires over the corks unnecessary in the case of elfervescent liquors. v
In the annexed drawings the subject of the invention is represented, wherein Figure l is a front view showing the device applied to a bottle. Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a plan.
The apparatus consists of two wire ties a and b of which the-upper one, a, has several turns 0, which are bent somewhat downward, and are laid over the cork d, thereby preventing same from leaving the mouth of the bottle. This tie a has hooks at its ends, which fit into eyesfformed in the tie b. The latter tie, I), also has hooks g at its ends, which. fit into and are supported in holes or recesses 41 provided in the head it of the bottle. The tie b constitutes a lever, bent at obtuse angles, and possessing a projecting part 70 at its end for the purpose of manipulation.
In action, by pressing tie 12 up or down about the hooks g, the lever action upon the tie a, is such that it is pressed up or down according as tie b is moved; and the bent portions or turns 0 therefore, according to the position of the lover or tie I), either press the cork into the neck of the bottle and keep it there, or they liberate it and thereby enable it to be removed.
It will be observed that the turns 0 constitute arms extending from the middle portion be made of wire which is elastic but not too stifi, the arms or turns 0 may have a certain yielding or spring action which will render the operation of the lever more easy and aid in holding it in its locked position.
What I claim, and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States, is
1. Abottle-stopper comprisinga wire tie and a lever of which the tie is supported and operated by the lever, and the lever is supported and movable in the head of the bottle, the tie having bonds or turns as 0 extending laterally therefrom and bent downward at their outer endsand adapted to press upon the stopper by said ends and keep the same in the mouth of the bottle, or to release it, according to the position of the tie, substantially as described.
2. In a bottle stopper, a swinging bail or tie having laterally extending arms over the cork,
and bent downward at their extremities so as to engage the cork by their ends, and means for depressing said tie to engage the cork, substantially as set forth. v
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
FELIX ANTON MAQUET. I
