To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC D.'PEARSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Revere, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sirup-Cans for Soda-WVater-Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Sirup-cans or vessels for use in what are popularly termed sodafountains, but which are technically known as the dispensing apparatus of soda water apparatus, have been removably arranged in such apparatus, but in so unsteady and loose a way as to topple 7 over, and spill their contents, thus not only wasting sirup but fouling the apparatus. Moreover, such cans or vessels have been of inconvenient shape or arrangement for cleansin g. \Vhere fixed socket-stands for such cans or vessels have been provided and connected with permanent sirup-cocks, the stands do not always level up with the sirup-cocks, and these sirup-cocks do not align with one another readily. a
This invention has for its object to provide a removable cylindrical sirup-can or vessel with a stable and fluid-tight connection with its support; and also to provide the support or stand with a leveling device oradjustable foot whereby the alignment of the connected parts of the cans and sirup-cocks may be ac curately efiected. In attaining these objects, the can or vessel is provided with a screwthreaded nipple for connection with its socket,
support or stand, and the socket, support or stand is made with a foot which is adjustable on the stem.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, in both figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Without thereby limiting the invention to the details of shape, construction and arrangement, the illustration of the invention will be described now.
The can or vessel a for the sirup is of cylindrical shapeand provided with an open end I) of the full diameter of the cylinder,
. and this open end is provided with a removable cover 0. The other end is provided with an outlet d having an externally screwthreaded nipple e, fixed thereto.
The socket, support or stand is composed of a stem f, which may be conveniently made of ordinary metal pipe or tubing and screwthreaded at its ends, the upper end being provided with a T-coupling g, the upper end of which is provided with an internally screwthreaded socket it having the base or shoul der '5 to receive the nipple e of the can, a packing ring it; being-laid upon the shoulder t, beneaththe nipple e, in order to insureafluidtight joint. The can being round, that is to say, cylindrical, or circular in cross-section, and being fitted to its socket by a screwthreaded joint, it is obvious that it may be applied to and removed from its support very readily, at all times, by simple rotation of itself upon a vertical axis. By making the can round, it is possible, also, to handle the can independently of and without interference with its neighbors. The passage-way Z of this coupling leads from its socketed end through the lateral nipple m, while the lower screwthreaded end n is separated and closed from such passage-way by means of the partition 0. V The lower end n is also screwthreaded to engage the screwthread p of the stem-f. The lateral nipple m is adapted to receive any suitable connection 1', with which the draft apparatus (not shown) is connected permanently. The lower sorewthread s of the stem receives a foot 25, which is herein shown as an inverted cup-shaped casting provided with a screwthreaded opening to engage the screwthread s of the stem,although this foot may be of other shape and material. support or stand and thereby accommodate the stem f are permanent parts of the apparatus, but having a capacity of adjustment, at all times, both in assembling the fountain and afterward.
By means of thescrewthreaded nipple e fit- As already indicated, the adjustable foot provides for the accurate setting and alignment of the stand with relation to thedraft apparatus, without the necessity of blocking or otherwise leveling up thestand by means of extraneous pieces.
Obviously, the adjustment of the foot upon the screwthread sis efiected byrotation of the foot thereupon, after the manner of running any ordinary nut on and olf the screw thread, and it is equally obvious that by this means the socket support or stand may be adjusted with the greatest nicety.
Another and important advantage of the construction herein described is that thecans may be readily filled without removing them from their supports, and may, also, in like manner be readily cleansed, the cleansing fluid being poured into the can and allowed to run out of the draft apparatus. The can being open at one end its full diameter, admits of the insertion of a mop or other cleansing device to reach the wholeinterior surface 3 of the can and thus insure its perfect renovation. 3
That I claim is 1. A oylindricalsirup can or vessel'for sodawater apparatus having one end open its full diameter and provided with a removable cover, and having a central screwthreaded nipple forming an outlet at its other end, and a support or stand having a screwthreaded socket into which the screwthreadednipple is insertedand secured by axial rotation of the can, substantially as described.
2. A cylindrical sirup can or vessel for sodawater apparatus having an outlet provided with a central fixed screwthreaded nipple, combined with a socket, support or stand having a serewthreaded socket to receive such screwthreaded nipple and into which socket the nipple is inserted and secured by axial rotation of the can, and a washer in the bottom of the socket, substantially as described. 'A stand for thesirup cans or vessels of soda-water apparatus provided with an adjustable foot, whereby the said stand may be raised or lowered to effect alignment of and with a fixed sirup-cock, substantially as described.
4. -A stand for a sirup can or vessel of a soda-water apparatus, composed of a socket piece for the reception of the can,a StGlDl'laV iing its lower end screWthre-aded, and a foot, also providedwith a screwthread and adjustablyfitted to the screwthreaded end of the stem, substantially as described.
