SHQE'MAKERS TOOL-HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,012, dated June 11, 1895.
Application filed March 11, 1395. Serial No. 541,354. (NomodeL) ing drawings, which form a part of this speci-' fication, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device or appliance for heating shoemakers tools, showing it applied to a gas-jet as when in use. Fig. 2 is an end or edge elevation of the same complete, but removed from the gas-burner. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the holder which forms part of my device, s'howingit removed from the gasburner and with the other parts of the 'device detached and removed; and Fig. at is a perspective view of the detachable top part or platform, showing more particularly the construction of the spring clamps and catches for fastening the platform removably upon its upright standard or support. Like letters of reference designate corre sponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to appliances or devices for heating the burnishers and other tools, used by shoemakers, over an ordinary gas-jet; and it consists in the detailed construction and combination of the component parts of a device of that type, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
On the accompanying drawings, the refer- 0 ence-letter A denotes a gas-burner of theordinary construction and arrangement. Upon this burner is placed my reversible holder B, which is preferably cast of brass, iron, or other suitable metal, and consists of two ver- 4 5 tical and parallel bars I) b, connected by diagonal arms a c and a center piece d, cast with loops, at, a, a, which are bent or deflected in alternately opposite directions, (see Fig. 2,) to enable it to fit, removably, upon the stem of the burner A by passing around opposite sides of the same.
Each of the parallel sidebars b b of the reversible holder B has a series of three or I more notches e, on its inner side, adapted to engage or interlock with spring-hooks,ff, at the lower end of the two parallel limbs of the upright or standard F. These consist simply of a piece of wire of suitable thickness, which is first bent to form a V, as shown at F, and then again 'bent at right angles, with the lower ends of the two parallel limbs thus formed doubled upon themselves in opposite directions to form the spring-hooksff, which, as we have seen, engage the notches e in holder B.
The third part of my improved appliance consists of the platformor tool-holder proper,
O, which is also of wire, bent into the shape of a Greek cross, in the angle between two of the arms of which the wire is bent to form a spring-lip D, adapted to engage the apex of the \l-shaped fiat top F of the wire standard F; while the free ends or terminals of the wire forming the cross 0 are bent, underneath the cross-shaped platform, to form spring-hooks E, E, adapted to engage the bent corners of the V-sh'aped top F, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The tools to be heated are placed upon this wire platform (J, with their handles pointing outward and their inner 8o ends overlapping the V-shaped top F of the wire-upright-or standard, so as to be immediately above and subjected to the direct heat of the gas-jet which issues from the burner.
By having several notches e in each of the side-bars b b of the holder B, the wire-standard F, and with it its superimposed platform 0, may be raised or lowered by shifting the hooksffrom one set of notches to another,
so as to bring the tools to be heated nearer to or farther from the flame, as may be desired; and when the device is not in use, it maybe reversed, or placed upside down, and the holder B, with or without its attachments, may be placed in a reversed position upon 5 the burner A, so as to be out of the way and yet within easy and convenient reach when required for use.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent IOO of the United States- The herein-described removable and adjust-able heatingettaohment to gas-burners, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as comprising the reversible notched holder B, my own I have hereunto aifixed my signature in combination with the hooked and adjustin presence of two witnesses.

as and for the purpose shown and set forth. A. M. DEDNER.
