SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,736, dated June 11, 1 895.

To all whom it mdy concern.-

Be it known that I, LOUIS HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minne permit the same to be readily removed or ap-' plied into working position on the holder.

To these' ends the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, and defined in the claim.

In the said drawings, like letters referring to like parts, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a pair of holders as applied for re movably holding a clothes-line. Fig. 2 is a front side elevation of one of the holders detached. Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.

a a represent a pair of posts between which the line b is assumed to be stretched. The said posts a, are shown as provided with hooks a, for securing the holders to the posts in working position. Each holder is composed of a block or body a and an eccentric sheave or cam d. The block or body 0, has an eye 0' or other means, forremovably connecting the holder to the hooks a, or other support, when in working position, a seat a for the eccentric sheave or cam d, a side slot or mouth 0 for entering theline sidewise into working position, and a guide-lip or flange c for co-operation with the stem or handle portion of the blockbody, to guide the line into the month or slot 0 The eccentric sheave or cam 61 is eccentrically pivoted to the body portion 0 within the seat 0 bya pivot-bolt d, or in any other suitable way. The body portion c'is cut away to form the sheave-seat c and this seat is large enough at the back end to permit the sheave or cam d to be inserted into its working position, and islarge enough at its forward end to permitthe free outward passage of the line. The sheave or cam d is provided on its periphery with a V-shaped 6o sheave or cam d will appear as in Fig. 5; and

the line b may be readily inserted, through the mouth or side slot 0 into its working position between the sheave and the overhanging shoulder of the sheave seat 0 When the eccentric sheave or cam d is turned into the position shown in Fig. 6, it will clamp the line against the overhanging shoulder of the seat 0 and firmly hold the cord from being drawn through the holder under the working strain on the line. Hence, having regard to So the right hand holder, shown in Fig.1, for example, and supposing the left hand end of the line b to have been alreadysecured, the line may be applied to the right hand holder and drawn toward the right until taut; and '8 on then releasing the'line or applying strain to the same, on its working or left hand side, the eccentric sheave or cam 01 will be turned into its clamping position as shown in Fig. 6, and will hold the lines properly stretched. Where both ends of the line b, are to. be secured by the holders as shown in Fig. 1, the holders will face in opposite directions; as this arrangement will permit both of the cam sheaves to tighten or assume their clamping position on the line, by movements. toward each other, or in theline of the working strain on the line.

' With this device,it is obvious thataclothes line or other similar flexible cable or connection may be securely and removably held in working position, and may be readily put into or taken from the working position or applied to the working position, at will, without requiring the ordinary threading action through the sheave block, and without the removal of the holders.

It will, of course, be understood, that while this invention was especially designed for holding clothes lines, that it is capable of general application, for holding ropes, wires, or other forms of cables or flexible connections. The word line as used in this specification and claim is intended to be generic in sense and to cover and include all kinds of connections adapted to be clamped and held by the said holders.

This kind of a holder would be of special service, for holding wires, which areliable to stretch or become slack, ferany reason, under I11 testimony whereof I aifix my signature 30 in presence of two witnesses.
