No. 54,023. I Patented Aprii 17, 1866.

UNITED STATES PATENT ErrcE6 S. L. SAGE, OF HUNTINGTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHEEP-HOLDER AND SHEARING-TABLE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent NO. 511,023, dated April 17, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S. L. SAGE, of Hunting ton, in the county ot' Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Sheep Holder and Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fu'll and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 1nak ing a part of this specification, in which- Figure lisa plan View ot' the holder and table. Fig. 2 is a side elvation. Fig. 3 is an end view.
Like letters of reference denote like parts in the several views.
A represents the frame on which the table or holder is arranged. B is an adjustable stainlard attached to a cross-piece that turns or has its bearings in the frame. The standard B is secured in an upright position by means of a latch, d, pivoted to a brace, C, and that passes through a guide, e, on one side of a stationary standard, F, and catches on a pin, c', of the standard B The standard F extends up from a cross-piece, a., of the frame.
On the top of the standard B is secured an arm, E, in an inclined position, as represented in Fig. 2, there heilig a brace, c, extending` from one end of the arin to the standard.
H is the holder or table on top of the arm 'E, secured to lugs j, that are pivoted to the erator, and on which the straps lap over, is'
lower than the other. By means of the lugs f being pivoted to the arm E nearer one side than the other, as seen in Fig. 3, it allows the holder' to be turned over partly on the side, as indicated by the dotted lines. At the same time the arm E is a firm support for the holder when in a vertical position. The holder can be let down at the end, as noted by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, by unlatching the standard B.
The manner in which this table and holder is used and its advantages are as follows: The holder is let down at the end, as indicated in Fig. 2, till within a few inches of the iioor or ground, when the sheep can easily be put in and then raised up, thereby avoiding the necessity of lifting the sheep, which is a great saving of labor and strength. The holder is secured in its upright position by the latch d. The holder can be arranged so as to hold the sheep with its head in either direction, and the sheep may be either large or small, placed in on its back, and confined by the straps l. As the sides of the holder are flaring and it can be turned over as described, every facility is obtained for tagging and shearing the sheep in the easiest and most perfect manner.
This holder is very simple and economical in its construction.
l/Vhat I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The holder or table H, pivoted to the arm E, in combination with the adjustable standard B and standard F, arranged in the manner and for the purpose substantially as set forth.
