SIGHT FOR FIREARMS.
No. 539,470. Patented May 21,1895.
Java wot UNI ED STATES PATENT O ICE.
ANDERS G. CARLSON, OF RICO, COLORADO.
SIGHT FOR FIREARMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,470, dated May Application filed October 30, 1894. Serial No. 527,466.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERS G. OAnLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rico, in the county of Dolores and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sights for Firearms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in front sights for fire-arms and the same consists of a sight composed of a cylindrical portion having parallel cross bars therein with a bead located at the'center thereof.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an end view of my sight inserted in a holder therefor on the end of the barrel. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a modified form of the same especially adapted for use at short range.
Like numerals indicate like parts in the two views.
The .sight as shown consists of a tubular part 1 adapted to be inserted in, and removed from the cylindrical holder 2 secured to the forward part of the barrel. It has a cut-away portion 3 and outwardly extending flanges 4 at the sides of said cut-away portions which form stops to limit the inward movement of said sight in said holder and leave a portion of the same exposed,by which the sight may (No model.)
be gripped for purposes of moving. This cylindrical portion has two parallel cross bars 5 therein, with a bead (i'located at the center thereof. This bead consists of a narrow bar, joining the two bars 5 at their center.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 2, the bead consists of a perforated connecting piece, which is especially adapted for use at short range. a
It is understood that these sights are detachable in the holder 2 and may be substituted one for the other, as circumstances may require or suggest.
Having thus-described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A front sight for firearms consisting of a tubular part having parallel cross bars therein, and a bead at the center of said cross-bars, substantially as described.
2. A front sight for fire-arms consisting of a tubular part having parallel cross bars there in, and a bead located at the center thereof consisting of a thin bar connecting the said cross-bars, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANDERS G. CARLSON.
