To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, Or'ro PnARsoN, a'

subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Mount Jewett, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Connecting the Front Ends of Sled-Runners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in sleds and more particularly to the means for connecting the front ends of the runners and the steering bar to the runner connect ing bar. 7 The object of the invention is to provide Qsimple and efficient means of this character fwhich will reliably connect the front ends of sled runners without weakening them thereby avoiding all danger of their breakage when under severe strain.

"With this and other objects in view the invention consist-s of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the embodiment illustrated side bars 1 are shown connected at their front ends by the usual cross bar 2. A handle bar 3 is mounted on a steering bar 4 which is pivotally connected at one end with the seat 5 of the sled and has its free front end ofiset Patented Feb. 9, 1915.

8, 9 and 10 arranged at the opposite ends and at the center of said bar, the end slots being designed to receive hook members 11 formed on the front ends of the runners 12 and the central slot to receive the hook 6 of the steering bar '4.

The runners 1:2 which are preferably made of metal in the form of angle irons have their front free ends bent downwardly to form the hooks 11 which when engaged with the

8 and 10 of the Cress bar 7 securely connect said runners to said cross bar without any rivets being necessary and thereby forms a reliable and strong connection at these points. I

In the form shown in Figs. 6 to 9 which is specifically claimed in my copending application Serial No. 869,933, filed Nov. 2, 1914:, the runners 12 are constructed in the form of angle bars T-shaped in cross section the webs 13 thereof at the front ends of the runners being slotted longitudinally as shown at 1 to receive hooks 15 formed on the ends 'ef the metal cross bar 16. This cross bar 16' is provided interme'diately of its ends preferably at a point midway thereof with a slcit 17 with which the hooked end of the steering bar is designed to be engaged. W

My invention adapts the connecting bar to be readily detached from the runners at will without removing any rivets or bolts which is regardediby me as an important feature of my invention adapting the sled to be readily assembled and disassembled.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a sled the combination of runners, a cross bar connecting said runners and having a longitudinally extending slot midway the ends thereof. and a steering bar having its free end bent to form a hook adapted for engagement with the slot in said; cross bar.

2. A sled including runners and a cross bar connecting them, said cross bar being provided With a plurality of longitudinally my hand in presence of two subscribing extending slots and hooks on said runners Witnesses.
