To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, LoUIs F. VAN DE WIELE and WALTER L. VAN DE WIELE, citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Canopies for Brackets or Chandeliers; and we do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in devices employed in equipping buildings with wires for electric lighting to cover and hide from view the cut outs, insulating j oints, splices or joints betweenthe main wires and the wires which are carried by the brackets or chandeliers which support the lights. These joints are made, necessarily, close to the wall or ceiling and our device is designed to provide an adjustable canopy or shield that will cover these wires, insulating joints and cut outs, at the same time permitting ready access to the joints and avoiding the necessity of cutting down the gas outlets to which the bracket or chandelier is to be attached, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A, designates the canopy or shield which is designed to come in contact with a wall or ceiling and to be adjustable toward and from the wall or ceiling. This shield or canopyA is Open at both ends 0 and d. The interior thereof is provided with a spring 'e at. or near the outer or smaller opening (1, which springconsists of a spring ring secured to the interior of the canopy at a point f directly opposite to the split portion g of said Fig. 2 is a side view of the spring e, within said shield or canopy has its hearing or spring pressure upon the exterior surface of the portion 1) and by such frictional contact said shield or canopy A is retained in the desired position. Thusit will be seen, that the wires at the outlet can be readily brought to View and quickly repaired Or adjusted simply by the operator drawing or sliding the bellaway from the wall or ceiling thus exposing the wires and'cnt outs. At the same time when the canopy is forced home it covers completely all the wire and pipe connections from view. It will be further observed that in adjusting the device to a cut out or outlet of a gas pipe, the wall or ceiling can not be in any manner injured, and the canopy may be any desired shape and ornamentation. At the same time it is cheap to manufacture, easily and quickly applied, and is durable.

What we claim is.

The within described attachment for brackets and chandeliers consisting of the fixed portion 1; provided at its inner end with the annular stop flange, the canopy A, and the split ring c said ring secured to the interior of the canopy as atf and the free ends thereof adapted to bear upon the fixed portion whereby the canopy is held in position all as shown and described.
