To afZZ whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS BRO WER PEA- COCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Topeka, in the county of Shawnee, in the State of Kansas, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Syringes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in vaginal syringes of that class in which provision is made for dilating the folds of the vaginal wall, and at the same time washing thoroughly the Whole surface thereof; the object of my invention being to provide a dilator having iiexible ribs which shall be capable of compression and expansion, whereby it will accommodate itself to the vaginal canal, and of its own elasticity dilate the wall wit-hout the interposition of extraneous means therefor; and my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims. l, represents the flexible ribs of the dilator, which at the top are curved inward and secured to the ring 2. At theirlower ends they pass under the band 3, which is retained thereon by the curved ends 4, of the ribs.

5, is the injector tube.

6, is an ordinary coupling for the attachment of soft rubber tubing.

7, represents the cross-ribs by which the ribs are secured together in pairs.

8, represents coiled wire springs between the cross-ribs and the injector tube, being secured at the inner end to the bands 9, around the tube, and by which the dilator is rendered compressible and expansible, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1I. l

I-preferably use the coiled wire springs, as shown, but would not limit myself thereto, as any suitable spring may b eused.

The injector tube 5, may be of any pattern usually in use,` provided with bands 9.

[The advantages I claim for my improved syringe are, first, the dilator being compressible, it is more easily introduced than those of the same class, which are non compressible; second, after being introduced, the flexible ribs of the dilator expanding by the action of the coiled spring, the dilator accommodates itself'to thevaginal canal, and dilates the walls thereof, only to their natural expansibility, and without the interposition of Aany extraneous device therefor. r

.I claiml 1. In a vaginal syringe, an injector tube, flexible dilator fingers surroundingthe tube, suitably connected atk their upper ends, and at their-.lower ends slidingly secured about the tube, and a compressible, intermediate connection between the dilator ngers and the tube, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

2. A vaginal syringe, consisting of an injection tube, iiexible dilator fingers, connected in pairs, surrounding the tube, having suitable connection at the top-and at the bottom, and suitable springs forming flexible connection between each pair of lingers and the tube, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth. v

3. A vaginal syringe, consisting of an injection tube, flexible dilator fingers turned in upon themselves at the upper end, and secured to a band 2, retained at their lower end by the band 3, and made compressible and adjustable by the coiled springs 8, interposed between the'intermediate cross-ribs 7, and the bands 9, about the tube, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
