NITED STATES PATENT HENRY SEILER, OF UTIOA, ASSIGNOR TO THE QUIGLEY FURNITURE COM- PANY, OF WHITESBOROUGH, NEW YORK.
vTYPE-WRITER CABINET.
SPECIFICAT'ION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,706, dated April 2, 1895.
Application filed July 6, 1894. Serial No. 516,740.I `(No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, HENRY SEILER, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Type-Writer Cabinets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to`the figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in typewriter cabinets.
In the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification and in which similar numerals refer to corresponding parts in the several views, Figure 1 shows a front view of the cabinet embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 shows a vertical section of the cabinet through the Well with the parts in closed position. Fig. 3 shows the same in open position. Fig. 4 shows a plan view of the. platform in open position in connection with a section on line with the top ofthe platform in open position. Fig. 5 shows a partial section taken on line A-B on Fig. 2.
Referring to the' reference numerals in a more specific description, 1 indicates the case or cabinet, which is provided with a well 2 havin g side walls 3 and 4:. The well is adapted to receive the movable platform 5 which is supported at its front end by a link or arm 6 pivoted to the casing in the upper portion of the Well above the platform at 7 and to an extension on the lower portion of the platform at 8. On the side of the platform is secured a bar 5a which extends rearwardly in an arm 5b. To the rear end and the outside of this arm is pivoted at 9 one end of the 1ever arm 10, the other end being pivoted to the wall of the well at 1l. On the opposite side of the arm 5a of the typewriter'platform and at a point 12 below the body of the platform kis pivoted one end of the lever arm 13, the opposite end of which is pivoted or hinged at 14 to the rear portion of the Well cover 15. The well cover is provided with a front piece 15 adapted to close the front portion of the case between the end of the platform and the cover when the parts are in closed position, as clearly appears in Figs. 1 and 2. To the front portion of the cover is hinged one end of bell-crank lever 16 at the point 17, and the bell-crank is pivoted to the wall of the well at the point 17 above the line of the typewriter platformy 5. The other arm of the bellcrank lever 16 is connected by a link 18 with the typewriter platform, being pivoted to each. In the lower back portion of the well isprovided a shelf-like stop 19, which extends from wall 3 to wall 4 of the well and serves to give rigidity to the cabinet and as a stop for the inner end of the platform when in closed po sition. rOn the inner end of the platform is provided an upwardly inclined extension 5c adapted to close' the interval between the end of the platform 5 and the edge of the cover front piece 15% The arm or` link 10 locks or braces the platform in open position and guides it in opening and closing. i
The arrangement of levers and connections which support the platform and connecting it with the case and cover, is such that with a typewriter mounted on the platform 5, the parts counterbalance each other in all positions, andthe cover can be opened and the platform presented by either opening .the cover from its closed position to its open position, or simply drawing out the platform when the cover will open itself. In other words, all the parts move simultaneously, no matter what power is applied to open or close the device.
It is evident that the construction may be varied in several particulars without departing from the equivalents of my construction.
What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a typewriter cabii net of a movable platform, a well, cover, links supporting the front portion of the platform pivoted at one end to the cabinet above the platform, and at the other to the platform, links pivoted to the rear portion of the platform and the rear portion of the case, links connecting the platform with the rear portion of the cover and pivoted arms connecting the platform with the forward portion of the cover, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a typewriter cabinet,
of a case having a Well, a movable platform, the case below the plano of the platform in a cover for the well, links 6 and 10 connectopen position and operating as a locking ing the platform and case, connections 13 bebrace in open position and a guide-arm in 15 tween the platform and rear of the cover, pivopening and closing, substantially as set 5 otcd bell-crank levers 16 and links 18 conforth.
necting the platform and frontof cover, suh- In Witness whereof I have affixed my sigstantially as set forth.- nature in presence of two Witnesses.
