Description

tenin gs for Collars and Neckties,
UNTTE STATES PATENT -EFrcE;
VEIT FRANZ VON RIED, OF HILDB URGHAU SEN, GERMANY.
FASTENING FOR COL LARS AND NECKTIES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,492, dated March 26, 1895.
Application filed September 27, 1 894. Serial No.
England August 16, 1894, No. 15,630,- in France'August 29 September 23, 1894, No. 1,202, and in Austria October 24, 18
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VEIT FRANZ VON RIED, a subject of the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, residing at Hildburghausen, in the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fas- (for which I have secured Letters Patent in Germany, dated November 9, 1893, No. 76,278; in England, dated August 16, 1894, No. 15,630; in Austria, dated October 24, 1894, No. 44/5,611; in Hungary, dated September 23, 1894, No. 1,202; in Belgium, dated September 23, 1894, No. 112,078, and in France, dated August 29, 1894,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists of a device designed to act both as a collar-stud and as a necktieretainer, which will prevent the neck-bands of-neckties, bows, cravats, scarfs, and the like from shipping either up or down at the back of the neck of the wearer.
In the drawings Figures 1, 2, and 3 show a front elevation, a vertical sectional elevation and a plan respectively of my device applied to a shirt and retaining in position a collar and the neckband of a cravat; and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 show views showing the device detached.
The improved combined stud and necktieretainer comprises a disk a, which is provided with a shank c and with a screw-like portion b the purpose of the latter being to enable the disk (1 to be more readily inserted in the studholes.
(1 are two eyes, which are mounted in the W shank c in such a manner as to be capable of turning therein.
524,289. (No model.) Patented in Germany November 9, 1893, No. 76,278; in
,1894; in Belgium fieptember 23, 1894,11'0. 112,078; in Hungary 94,1T 0.44/5,611.
When employing this device, the disk a is twisted first through the stud-hole of the-cob lar'g and then through that of the neck-bandf of the shirt, which is thus secured to the 001- 4d lar; The eyes 01 being assumed to be in the position shown in Fig. 6, the neckband h of the cravat is passed through them. The eyes dare then turned back into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so that the neckband his clipped against the collar 9 by the eyes d and they themselves do not now project outwardly beyond the shank c.
It will be seen, that by means of this device the neckband of the c'ravat is prevented from slipping either up or down, and that the device at the same time fulfills the function of an ordinary collar-stud.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of said invention and in 5 5 what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, the combined collarbuttonand necktie retainerherein described, comprising a disk a, shank c, and 6c elongated eyes at pivotally connected to the head of said shank and adapted to be folded flat in opposite directions, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal'in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VEIT FRANZ VON RIED. [It 8.]
