MYRON WOOD, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM O. WOOD,
OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED HAT AND COAT HOOK.
SPECIFIGATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 536,412, dated March 26, 1895.
Application filed May 3, 1894. Serial No. 509,895. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRON WOOD, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined 'Hat and Coat Hook, of which the iollowing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to combined hat and coat racks.
My object is to produce a hat and coat rack constructed in knock-down shape, so that it may be easily and readily taken apart and shipped or stored so as to occupy a minimum amount of space, and quickly assembled when ready for use; cheap and durable in its-construction and of great utility; and to that end my invention consists in the several new and novel features and combinations of partshereina'fter described and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereunto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, shows a front view of one of the brackets, in which the hooks are mounted, the
cross-bar being broken away. Fig. 2, shows a vertical section thereof. Fig. 8, shows a front view of the bracket head, detached. Fig. 4., shows a side view thereof. Fig. 5,
shows a rear view thereof. Fig. 6, shows a vertical section on linem-w, Fig. 5. Fig. 7, shows a side view of the downwardly projecting hook. Fig. 8, is an edge view thereof. Fig. 9, is a detached view of the upwardly extending hat hook, the top being broken away. Fig. 10, is adetached view of the crossbar connecting the several parts together, and securing the hooks within the bracket head.
'-A- is the bracket head, constructed substantially as shown in the drawings, provided upon its rear face with a dovetail groove --'a extending transversely and a vertical groove -b-extending up to substantially the central portion of the bracket head, and then passing through and forming the opening or 5 recess --c, constituting the shoulder dwithin the bracket head.
--B- is the coat hook constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and comprises a piece of wire. bent at its upper end to form a shoulder e-, thence bent and folded at and near its opposite end to form a hook.
-O- is the hat support, bent substantially as shown in the drawiugs, provided with a knob or enlargement at its upper end, and its 5 5 lower end bent to form a shoulder D is a strip of metal or other material having its edges beveled and adapted to be inserted transversely across the bracket head A- into the groove -a, itsinner face engaging with the shoulder f of the standard -O and the upper end of the hook B- for the purpose of holding the hook and standard in position when they are inserted in the recess and groove, as shown. The piece D is provided with means for securing it to the side of the wall, or other place where it is desired to hang it.
What I claim is- The herein described knock-down hat and 7c coat hook comprising a bracket head having a transverse dovetail inits rear side, and a vertical groove with an opening in its upper end leading to the front of said bracket head,
a standard and a hook secured in the head, said standard having its lower end bent to form a shoulder which enters the bracket head, and the coat hook comprising a wire doubled uponitself and bent to form a hook, and its free en dbent to form ashoulder which is also secured to the bracket head, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of April, 1894:.
MYRON WOOD. In presence of- O. W. SMITH, HOWARD P. DENISON.
