UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. HOMAN, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO TH EDWARD MILLER & COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SHADE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,207, dated March 26, 1895.
I Application filed Deceinher 28, 1894:. Serial No. 533,201. (No model.)
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. HOMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, New Haven county, Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shade-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of shade holders in which a plurality of radial arms is pivotally Connected with a ring adapted to embrace a portion of the lamp burner. It is intended to prod ucea very cheap and eff cient holder, easily packed for shipment.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents in perspective so much of alamp as is necessary to show my invention with my shade holder attached thereto, and partly broken away. Fig. 2 shows my shade holder detached from the lamp Fig. 3 is a portion of my device modified in form.
The same letters referto like parts in the several views.
A'designates a lamp; or, a cylindric band on said lamp; B, a shade holder band portion; 1), an ear on the portion B; C, a shade holder arm provided with eye 0, heel c and hook c and in Fig. 3, with brace 0 D, a rivet.
In the example of myinvention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the lamp A may be of any desired configuration and the cylindric band or collar a may be atany con-' made of wire as shown, is provided with an eye 0 at its inner end, a bend or heel c ashort -b and the eye.
distancefrom said eye, a straight or slightly curved body and a hook c at its outer end. The eye 0 of the arm 0 is pivotally secured between the ears bot the band portions by means of a rivet D passing through the ear The completed shade holder is shown in Fig. 2. It will be seen thatit may be folded in small compass for shipment.-
the arm 0. It differs from that above de- 7 scribed in having a brace 0 extending from the heel c outward and secured at its outer end to the arm near the hook 0 I prefer to make the arm 0 including the brace c of a single pieceof wire as shown.
I am aware that shade holders have heretofore been made in which radial arms were pivoted to a band. I do not of course wish to be understood as claiming such a device except in the combination above set forth.
. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
1. In a shade holder in combination a plurality of are shaped band sections and a plurality of radial arms pivotally secured at the adjacent ends of said band sections, substantially as described.
2. In a shade holder in combination a plurality of are shaped band sections each of which is provided with a radially projecting car at each end and a plurality of radial arms pivotall y secured between said ears, substantially as descr bed.
3. In a shade holder in combination a plurality of are shaped band sections'and a plurality of radialarms pivotally secured at the adjacent ends of said band sections, each of sa'idarms consisting of an eye, a bend form ing a heel below said eye, a body portion and a hook adapted to receive a shade, substantially as described. 7
4. In a shade holder in combination a plurality ofarc shaped band sections and a plurality of radial arms pivotally secured at the adjacent ends of said band sections, each of said arms consisting of an eye, a bend forming a heel below said eye, a body portion, a brace extending from said heel to said body and a hook adapted toreceive a shade,'substantially as described.
, WILLIAM C. HOMAN.
