A. G. WARD.
BATH TUB.
No. 536,110. Patented Mar. 19', 1895.
ami/mucosa ALMON o. WARD, or WARREN, OHIO.
BATH-TU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,110, dated March 19, 1 895.
Application filed July 3, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALMON G. WARD, of Warren, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in bath-tubs, having reference to that class of tubs constructed with a hollow wall between an outer metallic casing and an inner lining.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction, and also the combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a bathtub constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail with parts broken away. Fig. 4 is a View of the strainer detached. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectionalview, with parts broken away, showing a slight modification of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a tub; a, the outer casing thereof, preferably of steel, and a the inner copper lining, an intervening hollow wall or chamber a being thus formed, the same having a suitable filling therein. The outer steel casing a has struck up therefrom, or formed therewith, a vertical passage-way b of approximately ob-' long shape in horizontal cross-section, thus forming a tube or passage-way for the overflow pipe B. .The overflow opening I) is formed in the inner lining and is covered by a strainer or web-like frame 19 held in place by a screw bolt b engaging an inner cross-bar 19* extending over said overflow opening. At its lower end the overflow pipe B opens into a short hollow branch d, from which leads the outlet pipe 0.
In Fig. 5 the outlet pipe-section c secured Serial No. 516,443. (No model.)
in the outlet opening of the tub has formed therewith a lateral branch 6' provided with an outer angular end 6" which extends up into the tube or passage-way formed in the casing and is held to the latter by a screw or rivet e The overflow pipe E is fitted at its lower end in this right-angular end of said lateral branch.
From what has been said it will be seen that .ina bath tub constructed as herein specified the overflow pipe is concealed from view and confined in the space between the inner lining and outer casing and hence not only is the appearance of the tub improved but all liability of injury to the overflow pipe is removed and the integrity thereof is not likely to be readily impaired.
I claim as my invention- 1. A bath tub having an inner lining provided with an upper overflow opening, an outer metallic casing having at one end a creased portion extending outwardly forming a passage-way, an overflow pipe fitting in said creased portion and the outlet pipe leading from said inner lining and to which said overflow pipeis connected, substantially as set forth.
2. A bath-tub having an inner lining provided with an upper overflow opening and a lower outlet opening, an outer metallic casing corresponding to said inner lining and having at one end a creased portion extending outwardly forming a passage-way an overflow pipe fitting in said creased portion and extending to the lower end thereof, a hollow branch beneath said lining and the outlet opening therein and into which said overflow pipe opens, and a discharge pipe leading from said branch, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALMON G. WARD.
