CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
CASING FOR IBATH-TUBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led June 20, 1910, Serial No. 567,845.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. DANVER, of Beaver, Beaver county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Casing for Bath- Tubs, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional plan view illustrating my casing applied to a bath tub; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of one end portion of the tub with the casing applied thereto; Fig. 3 is a plan or front view of the casing removed; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of a corner portion of the casing.
My invention has relation to casings for bath tubs, and more particularly to a casing which is designed to cover or inclose one exposed side of the tub, being especially adapted for use in connection with tubs which are set in recesses or alcoves of a room or apartment. A
The nature of my invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which I have shown the vpreferred embodiment thereof, and which will now be described, it being premised, that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
In these drawings, the numeral 2 designates a bath tub, which is here shown as set within a recess or alcove 3 of an apartment, the recess or alcove having a tile facing 4 extending down to the top of the tub.
5 is the casing lor cover, which preferably consists of an integral metal casting, and which is adapted to cover the exposed side of the tub in the manner shown. The upper edge portion of this casing ts underneath the outwardly rolled edge 6 of the tub, with its upper corner portions slightly cut away, as indicated at 7 to pass underneath the rolled edge which is at the ends of the tub and abut against 4the end wall of the alcove as shown at 8. The casting is preferably provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting vertical stiffening ribs 9, and also with inward projections 10 which abut against the outer side of the tub and hold the casing in proper spaced relationy thereto.
The casing may be given any desired ornamental form, and may be painted or enameled in various ways to enhance its appearance.
Patented N0v.21,1911. i
The casing can be readily set in position,
with its lower edge resting on the floor, and forms a neat and attractive closure for the exposed side of the tub.
What I claim is 1. A casing or cover for one exposed side of a bath tub, comprising an integral casting adapted to be supported on the ioor of the room or compartment where the tub is located and having an upper edge portion adapted to t underneath the outwardly turned upper edge portion of the tub, and having end portions fitting against the Wall of the space in which the tub is set; substantially as described.
2. Means for incasing or covering the exposed side of a bath tub which is set in a recess or alcove, comprising a metal plate or slab of a length to iit longitudinally underneath the recess or alcove, said plate or slab having its lower edge arranged to form a support, and its upper edge to engage the rolled upper edge of a tub, the plate or slab also having inwardly extending stiffening ribs, some of said ribs extending into contact with the tub to space the plate or slab with reference to the tub; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
JAMES H. DANvER.
