UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EUGENE F. BADGLEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAFEGUARDS FOR WATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,554, dated April 3, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beitknown that I, EUGENE FrTzUE BADG- LEY, of the city of Brooklyn and county of Kings and State of NewYork, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Securin gWatches, Lockets, and other Valuables to the Person, thereby renderingitimpossible for pickpockets to ply their vocation; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in attaching to the rim of the case of a watch or locket at the bottom thereof, on a line with the pendant, or at any other point upon the rim, a clamp or ring to which may be fastened a strap or its equivalent, by which the watch or locket is fastened to the pocket of the wearer. The ring or clamp may be attached to the watch-case by screws or rivets, or it may be soldered or worked on in the manufacture of the case, and it may be constructed of any material suitable for the purpose.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the drawings making part of the specification, in which- A A represent the back and face of the case. B B represent the clamp. G O represent the two screws, if so applied, if not soldered or worked on. D D represent the slide on the elastic or any other fastenings that may be used to secure the watch or locket to the pocket or ladys belt. E E represent the independent slide to enable the elastic or other fastenings to be contracted or extended at will. F represents the side or end view of case. G G represent face and edge view of elastic or any other fastening that may be used to secure the watch or locket to the person. I I represent the lower clasp with hook attached to fasten it to the pocket of the wearer.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The attachment to a watch or locket case of a clamp or ring, when constructed in the manner and for the purpose as described.
2. The strap or its equivalent, when attached to a watch or locket case by a clamp or ring, in the manner and for the purpose as described.
