w wuemo flu: Noam: PETERS fa. PHO'TO-LITHO.. WASHINGTON n c IINTTED STATES PATENT UEEicE,
WILLIAM M. SEEGER, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
ARTIFICIAL TOOTH-CROWN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,421, dated March 12, 1895.
Application filed November 11, 1893. Serial No. 490,707- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. SEEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of .Iefierson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Tooth-Crowns and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to artificial toothcrowns, preferably of porcelain, and designed to be applied to natural tooth-roots remaining in the mouth, but may be used in the construction of other artificial dentures.
My improved crown is provided at its base with one or more loops of metal, which are baked in it, and to which are hinged one or more pieces or bolts. There may be as many pins or bolts as there are nerve cavities in the natural tooth-root. By reason of the pin being hinged when the artificial tooth-crown is placed on the natural tooth-root, the pin or bolt will follow the nerve canal in the root without requiring to be bent, and thus sub jected to liability to being weakened or fractured.
In the accompanying drawing A is the artificial tooth-crown. B is its base which I prefor to make with a depression, in which are secured the loops 0.
D is the pin or bolt which is jointed to the loop 0 by the pivot d.
While one loop may be used in connection with an eye at the end of the pin or bolt for a hinge, I prefer from experience to use two loops and a pivot as shown in the drawing.
In use the natural tooth-root is so shaped that the artificial tooth-crown will be in a proper position inthe mouth when its base is placed against such natural tooth-root. The pin or bolt is secured in the natural toothroot by means of cement.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I An artificial tooth crown provided at its base with loops of metal, in combination with a pin or bolt having one of its ends perforated, and a pin passed through the loops and perforation in the bolt forming a pivotal connection of the latter with the crown, said pin or bolt being adapted to be secured in the natural tooth root.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM M. SEEGER.
