JOHN G. CORCORAN, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
DENTURE.
erases.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. GORCORAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dentures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in dentistry, its object being particularly to provide improvements in that class of den-' tures which are removably supported in the mouth upon anchoring roots and has among its objects to provide improved means for supporting the denture upon the anchors without the necessity of posts or other securing means extending into the anchor roots.
To this end my invention consists in the Features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter particu larly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lower maxillary showing my improved denture in place; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the denture removed and illustrating the diiierent steps in the securing of the denture in position; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a crown; Fig. t is a simi lar view of the same uncompleted; Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the crown; Fig. 6 is a section on line :c0c of Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 is a view of, the covering plate for the anchor root.
In the drawings A represents the tooth roots which constitute the anchors for the removable denture. Any desirednumber of roots may be used for this purpose and may be natural, transplanted or implanted roots. The root being first properly prepared is surrounded by a band 2 to which is secured a plate 3 covering the top of the root. The plate 3 carries an upwardly extending square abutment t formed with a screw threaded opening 5.
B represents a tooth crown which in practice is first formed, as shown in Fig. 4, without a top in order to allow the bottom inset 6 to be formed. The inset 6 is shaped to receive the abutment 4 and has an upwardly extending tube 7. The top or face 8 of the Specification of Letters Patent.

crown is then suitably secured, as by soldering, to the outer edges of the side wall of the crown and to the tube 7, as indicated in I Fig. 6.
In the use of the invention the anchor roots for supporting the denture are prepared and fitted with the bands 2 and corn nected plates 3. The denture to be supported by the anchor roots is prepared by employing the necessary number of crowns 13 connected by a bridge G, supporting inter-- mediately of the crowns, suitable false teeth 9. The denture is articulated in suitable manner to fit the roots. It is then secured upon the anchor roots by being set over the same with the abutments 4: projecting into the inset openings 6 in the crowns and suitable screws 10 passing through the crowns and into the abutments. In removing or replacing the denture it is only necessary to manipulate the securing screws 10.
It will be noted that all of the supporting parts for the denture are supported exteriorly upon the anchor roots without any screws or other features extending into the nerve canals of the roots. This is of particular importance in my invention, insuring the maximum rigidity and simplicity with the minimum of strain or other injurious effect upon the root.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a denture of the class described, an anchor root, a cap inclosing the outer end of said root and formed with a central outwardly extending abutment, a crown having a bottom inset shaped to receive said abutment, and securing means extending through the inset portion of said crown and into said abutment.
2. In a denture of the class described, an anchor root, a cap inclosing the outer end of said root and an abutment exteriorly carried by said cap, a crown having a bottom inset shaped to receive said abutment, means forming a structural part of said abutment and crown for preventing rotation of one upon the other and securing means extending through the inset portion of said crown and into said abutment.
In a denture of the class described, an anchor root, a cap inclosing the outer end of said root, a rectangular abutment eXte- In testimony whereof I afiiX signature rioriy carried by said cap, said abutment in presence of two Witnesses.
bein formed with a threaded openin a eroxdn having a bottom inset shaped to JOHN CORCORAN' 5 receive said abutment, and securing means Witnesses:
extending through the inset portion of said H. SMITH,
crown and into said abutment. H. S. JOHNSON.
