PANTS-SECURING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,400, dated March 12, 1895.

To all whom it "may concern.-
Be it kn own that I, ELMER O. RAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moscow, in the county of Latah and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Pants-Securing Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has special reference to an improvement in those devices which are adapted to secure the lower ends of a pair of pants around the wearers legs, thereby preventing their interference with his actions, such as in riding a bicycle or on horseback; and it consists of an improvement whereby the lap or fold in the pants is embraced and held secured, in addition to holding the remainder of the pants snugly against the leg of the wearer.
In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my complete device, showing it in use; Fig. 2, an enlarged perspective of the device detached from the pants; Fig. 3, a horizontal section, taken through the parts when held by the securer, and showing the relation of the pants thereto.
The reference numeral 1 indicates the pants, to which I have shown my improvement as applied. The securer consists of an elastic strap 2, provided at one end with the ring 3, and at the remaining end with the adjustable clasp 4. The end of the strap 2 which has the clasp 4 is bent around the loop 5 of the metallic section of the securer, and brought back upon the remainder of the strap, so as to make it possible to engage the clasp 4 therewith. By these means the length of the strap 2 may be adjusted.
The metallic section of the device consists of a strip 6 of steel bent at its middle, so that the two sections will lie parallel with each other, and in the form of a semicircle. The loop 5 is double, and has the end which is not secured to the strap 2 embracing the bend in the strip 6, whereby the strap 2 and the strip 6 are connected. The end of the outer section or bend in the strip 6 is formed with the hook 7 thereon, while the remaining end is broadened, at 8, so as to present more surface to the pants.
The use of my invention is shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and there it will be seen that the pants are first folded to form the lap or fold 9, and the sections of the strip 6 sprung apart so as to embrace the same. This will hold the lap 9 securely and prevent unfolding. The strap 2 should next be passed around the Wearers leg and the ring or loop 3' connected to the hook 7, whereby the pants are secured in place, so as to be incapable of flapping about and becoming entangled in adjacent parts. By means of the bends in the strip 6 the fold 9 is held secure and prevented from becoming loose.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A pants securing device consisting of a strip of metal bent to form two parallel portions, and having a spring tendency toward each other, and a strap permanently connected to the strip of metal at its bend and removably connected to one of the terminals of the strip, substantially as described.
2. A pants securing device consisting of a strip of spring metal havinga hook formed at one end, and bent so as to form two parallel portions having a spring tendency toward each other, a loop connected to the strip at its bending point, and a strap having one end connected to the loop, and the remaining end I provided with a ring by which it may be connected to the hoop of the metallic strip, substantially as described.
