To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ISIDOR MAUTNER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, in the Province of Lower Austria, in the Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tents, (for which I have obtain ed patents in Austria, dated May 17, 189

No. 44/1314. in Hungary, No. 364, dated May 6, 1894; in Switzerland, No. 8,349, dated April 28, 1894s, and in Belgium, dated April 28, 1894, No. 109,721,) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention has relation to tents, and more particularly to convertible tents, and it has for its object a construction of a sectional tent, the sections of which are adapted to be converted into a garment, as an overcoat.

It has for its further object a construction of a sectional tent more particularly adapted for military purposes, in which the sections are adapted to be converted into a military overcoat, as will now be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- h Figure 1 is a face'or plan view of one of the tent sections. Fig. 2 illustrates its conversion into an overcoat, which is shown by a rear view, Fig. 3 being a front view thereof. Fig. at is a perspective view of the completed tent. Fig. 5 is a vertical cross section thereof, and Fig. 6 a detail view.

In the above-described drawings I have illustrated my improved convertible tent as constructed of two exactly similar sections, a and a constructed as follows, referring to Fig. 1: The sections have the form of a rhomboid or diamond, and are provided with arm holes a at suitable points on opposite sides of the center of least diameter 00, and to each of said arm holes is secured a sleeve b, the arm holes being substantially ellipsoidal with their major axis convergent. To the fabric contiguous to the sleeves and substantially in the plane of the major axis of the arm holes a is secured a flap 0t provided with buttonholes, and at a suitable angle to the said flap 3. corresponding series of buttons (1. are sewed to the fabric. Saidparts when buttoned to gether form the required shoulder curvature when the tent section is converted into an overcoat. See Fig. 2. A shoulder strap a is secured in the usual manner to the fabric close to the upper or inner end of the sleeves, and is provided at its outer end with a button hole adapted to be buttoned to the outer button of the row a of such, said shoulder strap serving theusual purposes and also covering the flap a At suitable points on opposite sides of the minor axis a: 00 of the rhomboid I secure two straps (Z d, one of which has button holes and the other is provided with buttons, said straps constituting the back strap and serving to gather the fabriowhen the tent section is converted into and worn as an overcoat, as shown in Fig. 2.

At one of the greater angles of the rhomboid I provide an eyelet or holefadapted to receive the upper end of the tent pole, said angle or corner being folded back, and may serve the purposes of a hood when the said section is converted into and worn as an overcoat, as shown in Fig. 2, and at the opposite angle I provide on the under side a'hook g adapted to hook to a loop h at asuitable di. tance from said hook; similar hooks g and loops 71. being provided at the lesser angles of the rhomboid, so that said angles or corners may be turned in and secured in position when the tent section is converted into and worn as an overcoat, as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3.

The sides of the rhomboid are provided with two parallel rows of rings or loops f one of which is arranged alongside of the edge for the passage of the tent ropes, and one of said sides is provided with a suitable number of hooks 9 adapted to hook into either row of rings or loops f on the corresponding side of the rhomboid to secure the meeting edges of said sides when the rhomboid is converted into and worn as an overcoat, said edges overlapping, as shown in Fig. 3.

Of course buttons may be substituted for the hooks, as will be readily understood.

In the erection of the tent the center pole is passed into the eyesfof two of the rhomboidal sections. Ropes r are passed through the outer row of rings f along one side, say of section a and through the inner row of like rings along the corresponding side of section a, so that the meeting edges will overlap, as shown in Fig. 6, the corresponding opposite edges of the two sections constituting the entrance flaps for the tent, see Fig. 4,-suitable eyelets or rings arranged in pairs being provided along those sides and corners that constitute the ground edges and corners of the tent, see Figs. 4, 5, and 6, for the purpose of tying said edges to the pegs, though this is not absolutely necessary, as the rings f may be used for that purpose.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A rhomboidal or diamond shaped tent section adapted to be converted into a garment and provided with arm holes 0., sleeves b, means for connecting together two of the sides of said section when converted into a garment, and, means for turning in and securing three of the corners of said section, for the purpose set forth.

2. In a convertible tent, a rhomboidal or diamond shaped section provided with arm holes a, sleeves b, means for connecting together two of the sides of said sections, and means for turning in and securing three of the corners of said sections, for the purpose set forth.

3. In a convertible tent, a rhomboidal or diamond shaped section provided with arm holes a, sleeves b, the flap a the buttons a therefor, the shoulder strap 0 adapted to be secured to one of said buttons, and means for connecting two of the sides of the tent section, for the purpose set forth.

4. In a convertible tent, a rhomboidal or diamond shaped section provided with arm holes a, sleeves I), back strap d, and means for turning in and securing three of the corners of the section, for the purpose set forth.
