SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,274, dated February 1,9, 1 895.

Be it known that I, PETER PAUL MnssAU, a
subject of the King of Prussia and Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Cologne-on-the- Rhine, in the Province of Rhensh Prussia, inl the Kingdom of Prussia, in the Empire of Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Self-Standing Scaffolds, (for which I have obtained Let ters Patent in England, No. 9,803, dated May 16, 1893,) of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved transportable self-standing scaffold whose dimensions and position can be quickly and conveniently altered without the plane of the platform being changed in any way and Without any of the parts of the scaffold having to be taken down so as to be suitable for use in decorating or painting the interior of houses or rooms and in which two or preferably all four supports are provided with wheels in order to facilitate the moving about of the scaffold.
Vith reference tothe accompanying drawings Figure l shows the scaffold in perspective and Figs. 2 to 6 are views of parts in detail.
The four vertical supports which or two of which are provided with roller wheels b, are provided with holes for almost their whole length, said holes being arranged alternately in cross directions forming rightangles to each other, further holes d bored diagonally being provided at the bottom or lower ends of the supports. The upper and lower ends of each support are further provided with bands f as shown in Fig. 4 and which are held in position by nails or wood screws. To these bands are fastened arms g extending in two directions at right angles to each other and forming a support for square stays t' connected with same by and turning on pivots h. These stays are so connected as to telescope reciprocally with each other as shown in Fig. l in such way that the whole scaffold can be brought into less compass, said stays being meanwhile held together by clamps k as shown in Fig. 2 which are screwed up when (No model.) These hooks are fastened in the holes c of the supports a lby means of a screw bolt n at the desired heightLthe rods being simply laid in same.. \Vhen it is desired to alter the dimensions of the scaold, it is simplynecessary to loosen the clampl screw 1 whereupon the stays slide over each other and by drawing together or extending the four corner supports, the scaffold can be made broader or longer as required. The clamp is again tightened by lthe screw Z and the scaffold is firm. In case it be necessary, the supports a can also be stayed horizontally by means of the hook 0 shown in Fig. 3. These hooks are pushed through the diagonal holes d of the supports a, the horizontal stay being laid in same and clampedbetween the supports and the curved part of the hook o bytightening the nut p.
For double scaffoldswith six or more supports, the bands r (Fig. 5) are used with four arms g. These bands are mounted on the middle supports and can each carry four stays. The double hooks fm. as shown in Fig. 6 are lalso used for the platform supports in double scaffolds.
For the purpose of lengthening the supports a, their upper ends are provided with four small angle irons held in position by bands and into which the end of the support forming the continuation is inserted.
Having nowv particularly described my invention, I declare that what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
