Description

(No Model.)
lVI. S. MASQN.
WORK CABINET.
Patented Feb. 12,1895.
INVENTOR UNITED STATES MARY S. MASON,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF MEDIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
WORK-CABIN ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,118, dated February 12, 1895.
Application filed February 24, 1894- Serial No. 501,369. (No model.) i
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY S. MAsON,aciti zen of the United States, residing at Media, in the county of Delaware, State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ladies Crochet, Sewing, and Fancy-Work Cabinets, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a work box or cabinet having Within it a bracket with an arm and post for a spool, and eyes on said bracket for thread guides. f
It further consists of a work box having within it a reel, with means for rotating and locking the same, the said box having an opening for guiding the work to said reel.
It further consists of a combination of parts herein set forth and claimed. f
Figure l represents a perspective View of a cabinet embodying my invention, part of the same being cut away and the lid removed, the
-latter being however shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of aportion of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two gures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a box Within which is secured the bracket B from which projects the arm C supporting the post E, which thus 4forms a spool holder and the arms having the eyes D in their ends for the guidance of the thread from the spool on said holder.
F designates a reel or bobbin which is mounted on the arm G and the side of the box, said arm being properly secured to the box. The shaft H of the'reelis provided with a crank handle J, and the wall of the box has a pin or stud K, against which the handle is adapted to abut, thus pieventingreverse ro` tation of the shaft and consequently of the reel, said shaft however having a slight lateral play, or the arm G is sufficiently elastic so that the handle may be drawn out and thus clear said pin, and permit the rotation of the reel, after which the handle again engages with said pin K and thus locks the reel. Within the box are secured the receptacles L and M for extra reels or bobbins, crochet y or other needles, &c. In the top of the box is an opening N for thread, yarn, worsted, dac., and in the same are also openings P, Q, for the finished work. An opening R is also provided in said top for the insertion of needles, dac.
S designates a belt, the same being connected with the box, whereby the lattermay be readily connected with and carried on the waist.
The eyes D and arm C are integral with the bracket B, said eyes when the bracket is formed of sheet metal, being punched out of the same.
The operation is as follows: The thread is runoff from the spool as desired through the opening N, and the finished work returned into the box through either of the openings P, Q, and wound on the reel and held taut by proper operation of the crank handle.
T designates alhookvor eye on the cabinet, whereby the latter may be hung up on a nail, &c.
, Secured to the back of the box or cabinet are loops U, which are adapted to receive the straps S, when the' device is not kin use, and thus hold said parts in folded position or out of the wayrH .Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cabinet for the purpose set forth having a bracket secured on its inner'side, an arm projecting from said bracket supporting a post, and eyes on said bracket forming guides for thread on spools on said post, and an opening in said cabinet for said thread, substantially as described. f
2. A cabinet containing a reel, the shaft thereof being provided with a crank handle, and the cabinet having a stud or pin with which said handle disengagingly contacts, said shaft having a lateral play and the parts are combined substantially as described.
3. A cabinet for the purpose set forth having a reel mounted therein, an opening for guiding work to said reel, and means for rotating and locking said reel, said parts being combined substantially as described.
