To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, J AMES VANDENBERGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a folding table.

My object is to produce an article of this class which may be cheaply constructed, and have such parts and arrangement of parts as will form a serviceable table and which may be quickly and easily folded into a small compass when not in use; and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of the various parts hereinafter described, and enumerated and pointed out in the subjoined claims reference being had to the acoom pan ying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a plan view of my device inverted; Fig. 2, a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig 3, an end view of the table folded, and Fig. 4 a section on the line it- 1 of Fig. 3.

Like letters refer to like parts throughout the drawings.

A represents the top, having secured to its under surface, strips B having shoulders B, on which rest the ends of the sliding bar 0, along which the bar 0 moves across the table: said shoulders forming ways on which the bar rides. The bar 0 has the slots D, grooved in its inner upper margins to acoommodate the heads of the pins I, which pass through said slots and down into the legs as shown in Fig. 2. O is a corresponding bar permanently secured to the blocks E which are hinged to the table top and also has grooves D, D.

The legs F, F, F, F, are arranged in pairs F,F, forming the pair, and are connected near their lower ends by braces G and near their upper ends by braces H, which are cut away in such manner as to permit of their interlocking so as to bring the ends near together as shown in Fig. 4:, when the table is folded;

J each pair of braces being pivoted together by suitable bolts to permit of their opening and shutting like a pair of shears.

It will now be seen that when the table is open as shown in Fig. 1, it may be folded by moving the bar C towards the bar 0 causing the legs to move outward toward the end of the table and at the same time legs F, F, approach legs F, F, and that when the bars G and G are in contact they will turn on the hinged blocks E, and take the position shown in Fig. 3.

I claim* 1. The combination with the top, of a bar, movably connected thereto, paired legs, arranged with one of each pair attached to said bar, and braces extending diagonally across said top and connecting each leg to its mate, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination with the top,of blocks hinged thereto, and carryinga bar, paired legs arranged with one leg of each pair attached to said bar, and braces extending diagonally across said top and connecting each leg toits mate, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination with the top, of a bar hinged thereto, paired legs arranged with one of each pair attached to said bar, braces extending diagonally across said top, pivoted together, and connecting each leg to its mate, and a bar arranged parallel to said hinged bar, and connecting the upper ends of said bars, having their mates attached to said hinged bar, substantially as described.

The combination with the top, having ways'secured thereto, as set forth, a bar in said ways, paired legs attached thereto, by a movable connection, arranged with one leg of each pair attached to said bar and braces eX-. tending diagonally across said top, pivoted together at their intersection, and connecting each leg to its mate, substantially as set forth.

5. The combination with the table top, having ways secured thereto, a sliding bar on said ways, a corresponding bar arranged parallel to said sliding bar and hinged to said top, paired legs arranged with one leg of each pair attached to said sliding bar, by a movable connection, and its mate attached to said hinged bar, and braces connecting each bar to its mate, extending diagonally across said sliding bar by pin 1, in said slot, and its mate top, and pivoted together at their intersecsecured to said corresponding bar, by a pin tion, substantially as set forth. in said slot and braces connecting each leg to 6.
