To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS J. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'inchester, in the county of Frederick and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to improvements in tables, and the object is to provide improved means for detachably and adj ustably securing the legs to the table.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a bottom view of the table top showing the brackets forsecn ring the table-top to the siderails or frame, and also, the brackets for securing and holding the legs in place. Fig. 2, is a similar view showing the leg in section. Fig. 3,is a detail of the top portion of one of the legs. Fig. 4, is a detail front view of one of the leg-brackets.

A, designates the top of the table, and B, designates the side and end rails of the frame. The side and end rails of the table are stopped short of the ends, leaving an opening 8, between them as shown in Fig. 2, of the draw ings, to permit the body of the upper end of the legs to be moved up and occnpythe usual positions when in place.

0, designates the legs, formed with vertical mortise-s 9,10, to take the ends of the rails of the table-top asseen in Figs. 2 and 3, of the drawings.

To secure and brace the legs to the tabletop I provide the brackets D. These consist of the cross-bars 11, having the ends formed to set against the faces of the side rails as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, and provided with the additional brace-arms 12,

at their lower edges, the ends of which set in mortises 13, in the edges of the rails, and have screw-holes 14, formed therein to take fastening-screws 15, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, of the drawings. In the cross bars 11, are formed screw threaded holes 16, in which are set-screws 17, the ends of which bear against the table leg and thus hold it tight and firm in place. To prevent the legs from being marred by the ends of the screws 17 bearing plates 18, maybe secured to them, as seen in Fig. 2, of the drawings.

It will be perceived from the foregoing description, and by reference to the drawings that I have made a table the respective parts of which may be secured firmly and substantially together, and that the parts may be made and packed, in the smallest possible space; and also, that the top, rails, and legs may be readily set together, and the brackets applied conveniently.

What I claim is In combination with the table top legs C, set-screws 17, and bearing-plate 18, and side and end rails thereof; of the bracket D, bi furcated at its ends forming braces 11, and 12, the ends of the former being set against the sides, and the ends of the latter set in mortises 13,in-the edges of rails and arranged at angles to the cross-bar or brace 11, whereby the legs which take the ends of the rails of the table top are adj ustably secured and tightly braced to the table top, substantially as described.
