EDIVARD B. AIGUIER, OF NE VARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE RICHARDSON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED KEY-RING AND CIGAR-CUTTER.-
SPEGIFICATICN forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,577, dated November 20, 1 894.
Application filed August 21,1894. Serial No. 520,890. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD B. AIGUIER,
of Newark, in the county of Essex and State new and improved combined key ring and cigar cutter, which is simple and durable in construction, very ornamental, and arranged to prevent accidental disengagement of the keys at the time the cutter is being used.
The invention consists principally of'a key ring having a movable head adapted to actuate the movable head of the cutter.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a face view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same, on the line- 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the same, on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a face view of the improvement. showing the insertion of the key.
The improved combination key ring and cigar cutter, is provided with the fixed head A, provided at one end with a pivot B,ou which is pivoted the movable head 0 curved in an opposite direction to the head A and adapted to engage the keysto hold the latter in place. The free end of the pivoted head .0, is formed with a guideway C engaging a segmental frame D, connected by a hollow pivot E with a frame F forming an integral extension of the upper end of the head A.
In the frames F and D are secured the steel cutters H and I respectively, preferably having their cutting edges semi-circular, as indicated in the drawings, so that when the cigar end is inserted in the circle formed by the two cutting edges, as shown in- Fig. 1, and the pivoted frame D is pressed inward, then the cutter I passes over the cutter H and the cutting edges cut 0d the point of the cigar. A
The pivot E preferably carries a ring J for attaching the key ring on a watch chain or other device. The outer edges of the heads A and C are preferably serrated, as indicated in Fig. 2, so as to permit the user to conveniently press the said heads in working the cigar cutter, it being understood that the movable head C when pressed inward, causes the frame D, to swing inward to cut off the cigar by the cutters'H and I, as previously explained.
When'it is desiredto inserta key in the ring, then the operator presses with the key end normal open position as illustrated in Fig. 1. 6o
against the frame D, so as to swing the latter inward to move the frame out of engagement with the guideway C to permit the insertion of the key over the head C, as-indicated in Fig. 5. 1
.In removing the key, the operator presses the ring of the key against the lower or inner portions of the frame D, to cause the latter to swing inward and out of engagement with the guideway C, so that an opening is formed for the removal of the key from the head C.
The inward swinging motion of the frame D is limited by a shoulder A formed on the upper end of the head A.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-v 1. A combined ring and cigar cutter, comprising a ring having its ends spaced apart and formed of two hinged sections, and a cutter formed of a fixed and a movable section,
said cutter being secured to one end of the ring and having its movable section engaging I the other end of the ring and adapted to be operated thereby, substantially as described.
2. A combined key ring and cigar cutter, comprising a fixed ring head, a movable ring head pivoted to the fixed head, a stationary cutter secured to the fixed head, and a movable cutter pivoted to the stationary cutter and engaging the free end of the movable ring head and adapted to be operated thereby, substantially as described.
3. A key ring and cigar cutter, comprising a fixed ring head, a movable ring head pivoted on the fixed ring head, a frame secured to the fixed head and carrying a cutter, a second frame pivoted on the said first named frame and likewise carrying a cutter, the said second pivoted frame engaging the free end of the said pivoted ring head and adapted to be operated thereby, substantially as shown and described.
4. A key ring and cigar cutter, comprising sition and the ring closed, substantially as 25 shown and described.
EDWARD B. AIGUIER.
