NECKTlE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,879, dated November 6, 18 94.

Application filed March 6,1894.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, J OHN HENDERSON HINES, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloster,.in the county of Amite and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the general class of clasps, buckles and buttons, and particularly to a necktie-holder or necktie-fastener, and its novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in connection with the annexed drawlngs.

The object of the invention is to provide an adjustable holder for neckties of simple, durable and cheap construction.

A further object of the invention is to provide a combined necktie-holder and clasp, to hold the necktie in its proper position upon a collar, and t0 clasp the back of a shirt, to be vertically adjusted there, either to tighten or loosen the tie around the collar.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an ordinary clasp with a necktie holder, by securing the two together in a novel and peculiar manner.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a necktie-holder to be folded for convenience in transportation without detaching or separating any of its parts.

The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, as will hereinafter be fully described and set up in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application: Figure l is a perspective view of a collar upon a shirt, both partly broken away, showing my improved device holding a necktie. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device moved down upon the shirt to draw the necktie tight around Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the combined holder and clasp. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the device folded for transportation. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form ofholder.

opening c, in which is pivoted, to the said end a, by means of the eyelet d, one end e, of the arm E, which engages the necktie. By this arrangement, the holder, when in use,

stands at right angles to the clasp, thelatter being either to the right or left of the holder, and is not permitted to turn farther than at the said right angle, because of the side edge of the pivoted end 6, of the arm coming in contact with the bend b.

WVhen it is desired to pack the holder or several of them for shipment, the clasp is turned up from either side upon the arm E, and in line therewith. The arm E, is made of a single piece of sheet metal with a pivot hole in its end a. Its other end is twisted half way around leaving such end turned at right angles to the face of the holder. In this twisted end is made a slot F, of the whole length of the said twisted end at right angles to the face of the holder, and through which slot the necktie is passed.

Referring to the modified form of holder, the same consists of a piece of spiral spring wire E, the ends being joined together by the pivot plate e, which is pivoted to the clasp, as in the first described form.

Instead of the spiral wire, a piece of woven elastic may be employed by attaching it in the same manner to the plate 6, which is in turn pivoted to the clasp.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a necktie holder, the combination of the clasp having a portion bent upon itself to form a pivot bearing, and the arm twisted at its center, slotted at one end to receive a necktie, and pivoted in the said bearing at the other end, substantially as set forth.
