UNITED STATES SAMUEL L. OONDE, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
COPY-HOLDER FOR TYPE-WRITERS,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,531, dated November 6, 1894.
Application filed March 27, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. CONDFI, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago, in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy-Holders for Type- Writers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to construct a simple and cheap copy holder, in which the action ofgravity is .employed to clamp and hold the paper in position.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the front face of. my improved copy holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rear face of the same.
My improved holder consists of a suitable stand, consisting of legs 1 and 2 joined by a clamp 3 and a third or bracing leg 4, which has a sliding engagement with the clamp, and by means of the set screw 5 is clamped firmly in position. The upper portion of the legs 1 and 2 is made in loop form, consisting of lengthwise bars 6 and end bars 7. The shelf or leaf upon which the copy is placed consists of the main portion 8 and an enlarged or thickened upper end, having its lower face beveled. This shelf is placed through the loop of the stand portion until the en- Serlal No. 7| 0 (No model.)
larged end comes in contact with the lower lengthwise bar of the loop, when, by action of gravity, the upper end of the shelf will lie in contact with the upper lengthwise bar of the loop, as shown in the drawings. The copy is placed between the upper lengthwise 3 5 bar of the loop and the face of the shelf, and the action of gravity will hold it in position.
A loop 9, formed of wire, holds the leaves of the copy which have been turned over, as shown in the drawings.
A line indicator 10 is formed of wire, and having one end in loop form which engages the edge of the shelf by friction, and may be moved in the lengthwise direction of the shelf.
I claim as my invention A copy holder consisting of a shelf with a flat surface, and its upper end as broad as the paper to be clamped, a support having a hoop at its upper end embracing the upper end of the board, the upper portion of the loop being in the form of a straight bar to clamp the pa per to the board.
