Description

I (No Model.)
A. L. ZELLER.
SKIRT ELEVATOR.
Patented 001;. so, 1894."
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR L. ZELLER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SKI RT-ELEVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,455, dated October 30, 1 894.
Application filed July 23,1894. Serial No. 518,359. (No model.)
To a, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'I, ARTHUR L. ZELLER, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Skirt-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved device for supporting skirts; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described and pointed out in theclaims.
Figure I is a'perspective view, illustrative of myinvention. Fig. II is an elevation with the face plate removed. Fig. III is a section, taken on line III-III, Fig. II.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a casing, which is in the form of a small box, having a mouth piece 2.
3 represents a clamp, which may be of any suitable form for grasping the skirt.
4 represents a clamp for securing the device to the wearer, and this clamp may be of any desired form. It is connected by a-chain or cord 5, to a bail 6, secured to the casing 1. The clamp 3 has a chain or cord 7, which passes up through the casing, as shown in Fig. II, and out through the mouth piece 2, its end being provided with a' ring or other hand-piece 8.
Inside of the casing is a clamp, consisting of a fixed member 9, and a movable member 10, the chain 7 passing betweenthese members of the clamp. The member 9 is riveted or otherwise secured to the casing, while the member 10 has a stem 11 that passes through one side of the casing, as shown in Fig. II, and there is a spring 12 surrounding the stem between the member 10 and the side of the casing, and which acts to force the member 10 toward the member 9 of the clamp. The chain is thus held by the clamp to any adjustment, and; by moving the chain up or down, the skirt may be raised or lowered, and held at the desired place.
With my improved device, the skirt may be held at any desired elevation, and this elevation maybe quickly and readily changed by simply raising and lowering the chain 7.
I claim as my invention- 1. A skirt supporter comprising the box having a mouth piece, means forsupporting the box, the supporting chain passing through the box and mouth piece, having a handpiece at its upper end, and a clamp at its lower end, the chain-clamp consisting of a fixed member, and a movable member having a stem Working through the casing, and a spring surrounding the stem for forcing the movable member toward the'fixed member for clamping the chain; substantially as described.
2. A skirt supporter comprising the box 1, having a mouth piece 2, the bail 6 secured to the box, the chain 5 secured to the bail, the clamp 4 secured to the chain, the chainclamp consisting of a fixed member 9, the movable member 10 having a stem 11 working through the box, the spring 12 surrounding the stem, the supporting chain 7 passing through the box and mouth-piece, having a hand-piece 8 at its upper end, and a clamp 3 at its lower end, and the push-rod 13 secured to the movable member of the chain-clamp, extending through the casing and having a push-button at its outer end; substantially as described.
