UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARRIE E. MULLER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
BEDCLOTHES-HQLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,872, dated October 23, 1894.
Application filed June 1, 1894. Serial No. 513,166. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE E. MULLER, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented anew and useful Bedclothes-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to bedelothes holders employed for securing bed coverings around the neck and shoulders of children while sleeping, and has for its obect the production of a device whereby the simplicity of construction, the ease with which it is applied together with its safety and security renders it much more efiective than those heretofore employed for that purpose.
To attain this end and object my invention consists essentially in two curved strands of wire bi-secting each other centrally and having attached to the ends thereof a loop or clamp to engage with the bed-covering and pillows, in which position a latch or hook passes around the bed-clothingand is confined to the clamp or loop at each end of the holder.
In the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification :-Figure 1 is a View in perspective of my bed-clothes holder. Fig. 2 is a view illustrating the position of the attachment on the bed-clothing.
Like letters of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts.
A- and B- are the two arms or members bi-sectin g or crossing each other centrally, as at C. The four outer ends of these arms are formed into eyes d-d to which the clamps are connected.
The clamps -EE are composed of a single strand of wire bent so as to form a large loop -E crossing each other as at E and small loops ee, the latter to engage with the eyes -dat the ends of the arms --E E The arms of these loops are then carried downward at each side of the intersection E one arm passing under and one arm passing over the loop .as shown and each terminating at the outside of the large loop with hooked ends interlockspring is produced to form a bite for the clothes. As thus constructed the springloops being loosely connected to the arm are movable and can be made to swing outward and backward in such a manner as to easily introduce the bed-clothesto the loops which is accomplished by doubling the end of the pillow or pillow-slip and the blankets together and drawing the meeting parts through the loop back of the V-shaped spring in which position the clothes are held or confined within the loops. As a greater safe guard however a latch or lever F- is connected to one of the loops in the end of the arms forming the V-springs and barred back over the bed clothes confined in the loops and hooked into the cross arms B. By this means there is little liability of the clothes becoming disengaged from the loops even if the sleeper is restless. It should be observed however that by this construction the occupant of the bed can easily turn over from side to sidewithout detaching the fastenings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. In a bed-clothes holder formed of two strands of wire intersecting and crossing each other centrally and provided with hooks at their outer ends the clamps composed of a single strand of wire formed into attaching loops and intersecting V-shaped springs, substantially as set forth and described.
2. The combination in a bed-clothes holder composed of two strands of wire crossing each other and flexibly connected together with the outer ends formed into hooks for connecting loops or clamps also composed of a single strand, and having eyes at the ends of the arms engaging with the ends of the two strands, of the locking-lever or latch adapted to bind the bed-clothes with the clamp and look into the loop in the manner described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
CARRIE E. MULLER. [L. 8.]
