UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EEANK c. euNDLAcH, or PITTSBUEG, PENNSYLVANIA.
MEDICINE on SAMPLE cAsE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,486, dated September 25, 1894.
Application led January 25, 1894. Serial No. 498,020. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, FRANK C. GUNDLACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State 0f Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine or Sample Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure l indicates a longitudinal section of my improved case. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, the dotted lines showing the 4portion of the top and rear side thrown back, and the series of leaves folded into a horizontal position. Fig. 3 is a detail ofone of the hinges secured to leaf. Fig. 4.- is an enlarged detail of hinge.
My invention relates to devices adapted to contain vials, and commonly called medicine chests, or cases, and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter specifically described, `reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which like letters indicate like parts Wherever theyl occur.
The object of my invention, is to produce a case of this character, adapted to contain a number of vials, and to admit of their being arranged therein, in such manner that the labels on the vials arranged on either leaf, may be exposed to view, all facing the user of the same, by swinging, or turning the preceding leaf of said case, without turning the case several times in order to expose to view the labels on vials, dac., as heretofore.
I will now describe my invention, reference being had to `the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which like letters indicate like parts Wherever they` occur.
` Referring to said drawingsA is the case, the iaps b, top c and side d of which are adapted to be thrown back on the hinge e as shown in Fig. 2; The side f is also adapted to swing downwardly on the hinge g.
Secured tothe bolts or studs h on either side of said case, at the rear of the same, is a series of hinges z'-t` attached to the ends respectively of which are a similar number of leaves j-j having series of pockets, or other suitable device, on one side thereof, in which to secure vials k-c-Zc. Said hinges are graduated in length, so as to enable the back of a leaf to fold over or against the face of the preceding one, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, thus interposing a leaf between the vial, or bottle, as shown in same figures.
` It is obvious that my invention may be applied to various kinds of cases, such as sample cases, pocket, hand or buggy cases and such of like character. y
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
l. A medicine or sample case having a series of leaves mounted on hinges of varying and graduated lengths, pivotally secured upon a common point, and adapted to carry a number of vials or bottles, arranged in any suitable manner, upon the side of said leaves farthest removed from the pivotal connection of the same, substantially as and for the purposes herein described.
2. In a medicine or sample case, the combination of a series of leaves adapted to support a number of vials or bottles, said leaves being attached to hinges or arms of varying lengths, the opposite ends of said arms being pivotally secured upon a common point, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a medicine or sample case, the combination of a case having sides and top adapted to be folded backwardly, aseries of leaves secured therein on hinges or arms, of varying and graduated lengths, pivotally secured upon a common point, and adapted to carry a number of vials or bottles, arranged thereon in any suitable manner, upon the side of said leaves, farthest removed from the pivotal connection of the same, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto aiix my signature this24th day of January, A. D. 1894:.
FRANK'C. GUNDLACH. [L. s]
In presence of- ALBERT J. WALKER, C. A. WILLIAMS.
