UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
MORTIMER OTIS TURNER, OF MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED DOSE-CUP AND BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 525,753, dated September 11, 1894.
Application filed June 25,1894. Serial No. 515,691- (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MORTIMER OTIS TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marquette, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Dose- Oup and Bottle; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dose cups for bottles, designed to be carried over the stopper and neck of a flask and held to the neck by an integral lug, on the interior surface of the cup,
engaging with oppositely inclined shoulders about the neck of the bottle, thus holding the graduated cup securely over the cork of the bottle.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which-*- Figure 1, is a perspective view of a bottle having secured over its neck the graduated cup. Fig. 2, is a view of the neck of the bottle with the cup removed, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the cup and the integral lug carried therein.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, represents an ordinary bottle having a neck provided with the two oppositely inclined shoulders B, with the recesses or channels 0 between their re spective ends.
D is a graduated cup, made preferably of glass, having the scale d for measuring doses, and E is an integral lug projecting from the interior surface of the cup about midway of its depth, so that when the said cup is placed over the neck of the bottle, and the cork, the lug will come in contact with the inclined surface of a shoulder or neck, and by a slight turn of the cup, the rim of the same is forced down over the shoulder F forming a part of the bottle, which shoulder snugly fits the inner circumferential rim of the cup, and is also grooved as seen at f, which may receive any drippings from the graduated cup, which might otherwise settle about the rim and would be likely to seal the cup to the shoulder of the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the bottle having two oppositely inclined shoulders at the extremity of its neck, of a cup having an integral lug projecting from its interior surface about midway of its depth, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a bottle having two oppositely inclined shoulders at the extremity of its neck, of a cup having an integral lug projecting from its interior surface about midway of its depth, said shoulders having vertical channels between their adjacent ends, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the bottle having two oppositely inclined shoulders, of a cup having an integral lug projecting from its innor surface about midway of its depth, said shoulders having vertical channels between their adjacent ends, the neck of the bottle being formed with a shoulder F over which the cup fits and provided with a circumferential groove f, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MORTIMER OTIS TURNER.
Witnesses:
GEO. BARNES, I T. F. KILBY.
