GEORGE L. COLLINS AND MARTIN KEEGAN, SR, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED PAPER-WEIGHT AND LETTER-FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,677, dated September 4, 1 894.
Application filed May 20, 1893- Serial No. 474,934- (No model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE L. COLLINS and MARTIN KEEGAN, Sr., citizens of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Paper-Weight, Grip, and Letter-File, &c., of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in that class of devices wherein a grip is used in combination with a paper weight for holding down and together loose papers or other material, and jointly therewith utilized as letter files, towel grips, &c.
The objects of our improvement are, first, to utilize a bar horse shoe in miniature as a paperweight grip; secondly, to combine the grip and bar shoe in such manner that they will cooperate in holding down and together loose papers or other material; thirdly, to utilize our improvement as a. letter file, towel grip or for other purposes, requiring means of suspension. We attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of our improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same.
The bar horse shoe A constitutes the paper weight, and is the base of the structure, to which the spring B is {attached in such manner that its gripping surface is forced against the under surface of the bar shoe, whereby the weight and grip co-operate to hold securely any papers or other material inserted in its grip. B is the grip spring, secured to the bar shoe A, by rivet b in such manner that the grip end of spring B at B will be forced against the under side of the bar shoe, with adequate pressure, to retain firmly any papers or other material inserted between it and the bar shoe.
B is a bearing, attached to the upper surface of the spring B, in which the thumb lever 0 is pivoted to operate the grip.
D is an aperture in the bar shoe A, for purposes of suspension adapting the device to use as a letter file, towel holder, or for other.
purposes of official or domestic use.
The operation of our improved paper weight,
grip and letter file is substantially as follows:
For use as apaper weight, place the bar shoe A, upon the table or other suitable support, open the grip by pressing .down upon the lever 0, at its extremity 0*, insert the papers I or other material to be held in the grip at B between the bar shoe A, and the grip spring B, release the lever O, and the grip 1n stantly closes upon and secures the matter inserted.
For use as a letter file, towel holder or other similar purposes suspend the bar shoe A, by the aperture D, and repeat the operation as before stated.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A paper Weight grip having a bar horse shoe A, for its base, in combination, with the grip spring B, having its grip jaw at B, defiectcd against the under surface of bar shoe A, bearings B and lever C, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A combined paper weight grip and letter file having a bar horse shoe A, for its base in combination with the grip spring B, having its grip jaw at B deflected against the under surface of bar shoe A bearings B le-- ver C, and aperture D, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
