DOOR-SECURER.

SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 525,418, dated September 4, 1894.

Application filed March 22, 18.94.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OLIVER B. HOFFMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomsburg, in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Door-securer, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to im provementsin door securers.

The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of door seourers, and to provide an inexpensive one which will be adapted to be readily applied to any ordinary form of swinging door, and which will be capable of firmly locking the same.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of Y parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective View of a. door securer constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same showing the door securer applied in operative position to a door. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the ratchet bar. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the adjustable rectangular block. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View ofone of the pawls.

Referring to the drawings, a designates a ratchet bar, designed to have its front por tion inserted between the free edge of a door and its casing, when the door is closed; and it is provided at its engaging end with a laterally disposed spur or lug b, designed to be embedded in the casing of the door, whereby the bar is firmly held against withdrawal. When it is desired to adjust the block, which is detachable, it is only necessary to compress the front terminals of the pawls between the thumb and 1inger to throw their rear ends outward, and the block may be moved forward or rearward on the ratchet bar, or be entirely detached therefrom.

It will be seen that the door securer is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it possesses great strength and durabilityas the metal rectangular block is solid and projects laterally from each side of the ratchet bar, and that the metal block mayV be readily adjusted on the ratchet bar by simply compressing the pawls at its sides, and that as soon as the pawls are released they automatically engage the ratchet bar. It will also beapparent that the door securer may be readily carried while traveling, that it is adjustable to any ordinary swinging door, that it forms a solid stop for preventing the door from opening and that it is adj usted rapidly and easily.

Changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

A door secnrer comprising a ratchet bar provided at its front end with a laterally projecting spur and having at its rear portion at opposite sides forwardly shouldered teeth, the detachable rectangular metal block slidingly mounted on the ratchet bar and provided with an opening receiving the same and provided at its rear side with recesses located at opposite sides of the ratchet bar opening, the rearwardly converging pawls located at opposite sides of the block and provided with eyes arranged in the recesses of OLIVER B. HOFFMAN.
