UNITED STATES PATIENT OFFICE..
JOHANN KsTNER, on FETH, GERMANY.
WRITING-TABLET.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 524,805, dated August 21, 1894.4
Application ledMarcl 10, 1894. Serial No. 503,194. -(No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, JOHANN KSTNER, a
'subject of the King of Bavaria, Germany,
and a resident of the city of Frth, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Writing-Tablets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates toan improvement in writing tablets and the object of the invention is to supersede the ordinary writing slate by a writing tablet of glass in the use of which there are special advantages.
In the drawings, the writing tablet of this invention is shown in face view in Fig. 1,and in vertical section in Fig. 2.
It consists of two sheets or plates of glass b separated from each other by a paper material a, the outside surface of each sheet of glass being ground to a frosted state and the inner surface of the same, after being ruled with colored lines, coated over with black glue or lac-dye whereby the sheets of glass are held in place and at the same time aslate like appearance is given to them.
In order to prevent moisture from outside penetrating between the sheets of glass, their edges are coated over with waterproof lac-dye.
For the purpose of connecting the two sheets of glass together, water glass may also be used. The writing tablet thus produced is mounted in a wood frame c.
The glass writingtablet of this invention is much easier and more agreeable to write upon than the ordinary slate and moreover there is no screeching noise such as that made when a slate is written upon with a slate pencil, Further, the glass writing tablet is cheaper, more durable, and cleaner to use as the glass does not become greasy like the slate.
What I claim vas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A writing tablet consisting of two sheets or plates of glass separated from each other by a layer of paper material, the outer surfaces of which sheets of glass'are ground to a frosted state and the inner surfaces of the same which are furnished with lines, coated with black glue or lacdye, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANN KSTNER.
