IMPROVEMENT IN HOOP-SYKIRTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,427, dated February 6, i866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON LoBENsTEIN, ot` the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use, a certain new and useful Improvement in Ladies7 Skeleton-Skirts; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein. I have represented a portion of a skirt to illustrate the nature of my said invention.
Heretofore theconnection between the hoops or springs has been effected by tapes or strin gs. These are Very likely to cut and Wear at the points of contact with the clasps, and the strings are objectionable in their appearance, besides which they stretch and speedily wear out.
The nature of my said invention consists in a skirt formed by the union ot' the hoops or springs by wire connections or chains th at will fold or allow the hoops to come close together, as usual in portions of the skirt when the person is seated or when the skirt is folded up for transportation.
These metallic connections from hoop to hoop are much stron gerand more durable than the tapes or strings and allow the skirt to hang more gracefully, the connection moving more freely in any direction than the tapes that are clasped to the skirt-hoop to the extent of the width of said tape.
In the drawing, c represents the band or belt ot the skirt, clasped in any usual manner. b b are the skirt-hoops, of steel wire or springs of the ordinary character. c c are clasps attached to the hoops b b at suitable places, and having eyes at d d for receiving the Wire connections or chains e c. These wire connections e e may be made of long or of circular links, and of quite light wire, and at the same time be much stronger than the usual tape or string connections.
The links in these metallic connections may be strengthened by the ends ofthe wires forming them being twisted or soldered together.
What l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A skeleton-skirt for ladies, formed'with Wire or chain connections between the springs'or hoops of the skirt, as and for the purposes set forth. p
