SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,928, dated July 31, 1894. Application filed September 6, 1893. Serial No. 484,839. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY BRUNT, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Devices for Supporting Pottery Articles While Burning, of which the followingis a specification.

Pottery, during the burning operation to which it is subjected, becomes'somewhat plastic, and in supporting a bowl or analogous article, either in its natural, or its inverted'position, by means of devices which 'engage with the bowl, at or near its circumference, it is liable to become distorted in shape.

The object of the present invention is to provide means whereby a series of bowls may be suspended in a sagger, atpoints nearer to the center than has heretofore been accomplished.

In carrying out my invention I provide the sagger with a convex bottom of substantially the same shape and size as the interior of the bowls to be placed in the sagger. This convex surface is provided with an annular projection ora recess against orin which ordinary spurs used in supporting pottery in saggers, are placed. The bowls in like manner to the said convex surface in the sagger bottom, are each provided with a similar annularprojection or a recess. Spurs are placed in each of these dep/ressions or recesses to support'the bowl immediately above it.

Referring to the drawings, A A are the saggers and B B the bowls. Each sagger has a convex bottom a having substantially the same shape as that of thev interior of the bowl. A projection b or a recess is formed on the surface of the convex bottom aagainst or in which'the spurs c, preferably three in number, rest. This projection or recess is shown as continuous and annular, but it is evident that it could be divided into three or more sections each section constituting a mere stop for the spur resting against it. By forming the bottom a hollow, as shown in vthe drawings, the top bowl of a filled sagger may enter the bottom of the sagger next above it, thus economizing space.

I claim as my invent-ion- A sagger having an imperforate convex bottom with an annular recess adapted to receive spurs to support a bowl during the burning operation, substantially as specified.
