No. 522,881. Patented July 10, 1894.

FREDERICK ORONENWETT, JR, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
I POCKET CIGAR-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,881,4iated July 10, 1894.
Application filed December 11 1893; Serial No. 493,331- (No model.)
To on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK CRONEN- WETT, J12, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pocket Oigar- Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improvement in apocket cigar case, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the case opened. Fig. 2 is a central cross section on line 0cm,
Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the case closed.
The object of my invention is to provide a case into which a partly consumed cigar may be put, either lighted or unlighted, to preserve it for future use.
A A represent the two halves of a case, preferably made of sheet metal, connected together by hinges F, and provided with a snap lock E, by which the case maybe held closed.
G represents a cigar partly burned, and with some ashes clinging to its burned end, the consumed portion of the cigar being represented by dotted lines.
Bindicates a lining in the case, which, if it is intended to use the case to contain a burning cigar, I prefer to make of asbestus or other suitable refractory material, but which may be made of any other material if itis intended to use the case only for unlighted cigars. The lining B extends from one extreme end of the case toapoint intermediate its center and its other end, at which latter point the lining in each half of the case is thickened, as at g, and provided with a concavity G, whereby, when the two parts of the lining are brought together when the case is closed or shut thetip end of the cigar extends into the concaved parts G of the thickened lining.
The unlined portion a of the case forms a cavity or chamber into which the tip of the cigar projects which is held therein out of contact with the case by the thickened portions 9 of the lining, said thickened portions embracing the cigar and preventing the ashes from coming in contact with the moistened tip end thereof.
With this case, if a man desires to stop smoking, and yet not throw away a freshly lighted cigar, he may put it into the case, close the case, and carry it in his pocket, without danger of accident, or without con taminating the mouth end with ashes, and the asbestus lining prevents the heat of the cigar from causing annoyance.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cigar case consisting of two halves hinged together and each having a fire-proof lining extending from one extreme end of the case to a point intermediate its center and the other end thereof, said lining at the latter point being thickened and provided withconcavities to receive the tip end of a cigar, substantially as described.
