UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SETH M. FLINT, OF WORCESTER, NEW YORK.`
FLOWER-HOLDER FOR FLORISTS USE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,520, dated July 3, 1894. Appiicain sied Mach 2. Iss-I. serai No. 505,104.. (roman.)
y be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art tov which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates-t0 an improved box or receptacle for florists use, the object being vto provide an improvement over the'ordinary wire frame and produce a holder in whichl cnt ilowers can be arranged in any suitable design and kept fresh for a much longer time than they can be kept in the present appliances.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this specil tication, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved holder with the flowers arranged therein. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional View with the flowers removed.
In carrying out my invention I employ a box or receptacle A preferably of thin light lmetal said box or holder having its sides ci made a suitable depth (one, two or three inches).
The holder is usually supported in an obllque position by means `of` a bracket B, so that the design arranged within the holder will appear to better advantage.
U The holder is intended to'be made to receive dierent oral designsand in the drawings I have shown the representation of a flag constructed of flowers. v
Whatever the design may be the box or holder is divided into a series of compartments by means of the partitions C said partitions being as deep as the sides of the box orholder andthese are also' constructed of metal. In the design shown I )construct a right angled partition to provide the field for the union and a series of longitudinal partitions to receive the stripes. Each compart- .ment is shaped according to the part it is to -form in the entire design. The compartments are all lled with moss or other suitable material D and this is usuallywell watered or moistened before any of the flowers are inserted therein. The holder and partitions than they do new in the usual wire frame.
In `the .illustration the compartments representing the union field and stripes are lled with moss, the field is then covered with blue flowers and here and there awhite one is inserted to represent the stars. One of the stripe compartments is then lled with white flowers and the next one filled with red and so on. In this manner any suitable design can be formed and the flowers will keep much longer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, Aand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is g An improved holder for llorists use consisting of a metallic frame or box having a solid bottom or back, an angular partition arranged Vin one corner and a series of longitudinal partitions extending from said angular partition and also a series below the same, said partitions being also of metal thus dividing the frame or box into a series of compartments each capable of holding water, the filling inserted in said compartment to hold or absorb the moisture, and receive the stems of llowers, substantially vas shown and described.
In testimonylwhereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
` sETH M. ELINT. y
