FREDERIOK D. VAN WICKEL, OF CORONA, NEW YORK.
CIGAR-.HOLDERf SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,092, dated June 26,1 894.
` Application filed April 2,1894. Serial No. 506.076. (No model.)
To. al? whom it may con/067%:
Be t known thatI, FREDERICK DEVOE VAN WICKEL, of Corona, in the county of Quee and ;State of New York, have invented a neW andmproved Ogar-Holder, of, which the followng s a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention isto provide a new and improved cigar holder, which is simple and durable in Construction, and arranged to securely hold the cigar and to permit of Conveniently smoking the same without danger of drawing much nicotine.
The invention consists principally of a drawng tube having a mouth piece and carrying a hollow point or pin havinga slot, and a supporting band having a fixed and a hnged member and engaging the cigarat the said point.
The invention also consists of certain parts and detals, and combinations of the same, as wll be hereinafter described and then pointed out n the claims.
Reference is to be had drawngs, forming a part of this specification, n which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts'in all the figures.
Fgure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fg. 4 is a similar view 'of the same on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
The improved cigar holder is provided with a drawing tube A, made of metal or other sutable material, provided at one end with a mouth piece B, and closed at itsother end by a cap C, as plainly shown in the drawings.
On the drawing tube A and at or near the middleof the same is arranged an upwardlyextendng point or pin. D, made hollow and having at its front a slotD', as plainly shown in Figs. 2'and 3, the said point being adapted to engage the cigar E, at or near the pointed end so that in smoking the fumes pass from the cigar to the said slot, into the point D and from the latter into the drawing tube A to the mouth piece B.
Directly opposite the point D is arranged an apertured oifset A', in the bottom of the drawing tube A, and the outer end of this ofiset is adapted to be'closed by a screw cap F. Now, it will .be seen that any nicotine or other to the accompanying liquid passing into the drawing tube A, will gather in the apertured oifset A' and hence is not likely to pass into the mouth piece as the cigar is Smoked.
The, cigar is encircled at the point D by a band G, having the twomembers G' and G of which the member G' is secured on the drawing tube A and is connected by a hinge or pivot G with the member G so that thelatter can be swung open to permit of pressing the cigar onto the point D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The member G is then swung shut and is locked to the member G' by forming the free ends of the said members with a looking device G as indicated in Fig. 3.
Near the front end of the tube A is arranged a second supporting band H, made semi-circular and adapted to engage the cigar forward of the point, so that the two bands with the` point D securely hold the cigar in place on top of the drawing tube. Now, it will be seen that by this arrangement the operator can conveniently smoke' the cigar, without danger of much nicotine passing through the otially as shown and described.
2. A cigar holder, comprising a drawing tube having a mouth piece, a hollow point or pin on the said tube and provided with a slot, a supporting band on' the said tube and adapted to encircle the cigar at the said point or pin, the said supporting band having a fixed and a hinged member adapted to be locked together at their free ends, and an ap-` ertured offset in the bottom of the said drawing tube and opposite the said point or pin, substantially as shown and described.
3. A cigar holder, comprising a drawing tube having a mouth piece, ahollow point or pin on the said tube and provided with a slot, a supporting band on the said tube and 'I OO adapted to eneirele the cigar at the said point or pin, the said supporting band having a fixed and a, hinged member adapted to be locked together at their free ends, an apertured offset in the bottom of the said drawing tube and opposite the said point or pin, and a oap for closing the said apertured ofiset, substantially as shown and described.
4. A cigar holder, comprising a drawing tube having a. mouth piece, a hollow point or pin on thesaid tube and provided withaslot, a. supporting band on the said tube and adapted to eneircle the ciger at the said point or pin, the said supporting band having a fixed and a hinged member adapted to be 15 named band, substantially as shown and dezo scribed.
