SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 521,598, dated June 19, 1894;

Be 11; known that I, ADA F. BOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have inventeda certain new and useful Improvement in Spnng Attachments for Clasp-Pin Orna- 1n ents, of which the following is a specificaion.

My invention has relation to improvements in devices for preventing the pin in breastplns, badges and analogous devices from becommg unhooked from the loop in which its end 1s arranged to rest; and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective device which shall secure this end by constantly pressing the point of ,the pin outward when it has been hooked in the loop.

To the aforesaid object my invention consists 1n the peculiar and, novel device and combination of parts hereinafter described and then specifically claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.

In the accompanying drawings in which similar reference letters indicate like parts in both vlews, Figure 1 is a back elevation of a star ornament having an attaching clasp pin and loop, and provided with my invention; and Flg. 2 an edge elevation of the same look- 1ng from the left of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, A, is the body of the ornament which may be of any approved form at the back of which at the point C is hinged a pin B, adapted to enter the opening in the hook or loop D, in the usual manner of attaching breast-pins and, other ornaments. To prevent this pin becoming loose from'the hook D, I interpose a spring E, which presses against the inner face of the pin between the hinge andhook, and constantly forcing it outward prevents its escape from the latter. .In the construction of this spring, I preferably use a spring wire E, that I use as the pintle for the hinge of the pin which is thence bent upward across the ornament and back of the pin, and again downward to cross the pin between the hinge and loop, and also bent outward to press against the pin, as shown in the accompanying drawings.

I claim as my invention The combination, with the body of a clasppinornament having hinge members and a loop; and a pin adapted to fit said hinge members and engage said loop, of a separate wire arranged to pass through said hinge members and pin and operate as a pintle therefor, its other end being bent to engage the pin between the hinge and loop and constantly press it outward, as shown and described.
