COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 521,1 19, dated June 5, 1 894.
Application filed Cl'uly 11,1893. Serial No. 480.168. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM LINTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of 5 Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coolers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- IO pertains to make and use the same.
The object of my present improvement is to provide an improved cooling vessel in which butter, meats, fish or perishable goods can be conveniently preserved at a low temperature 15 without liability of becoming fetid and in which provision is made for renewing the supply of water or ice without necessitating the removing oi the upper section, the device being constructed to present a neat and at- 20 tractive appearance to enable it to be used on the dining table although it may be used for domestic purposes generally.
With these ends in view, my invention consists of a base constructed with concentric 2 5 walls forming between themselves a receptacle for water or ice and a provision chamber and having a vertical pedestal, a channeled substance, such as melted wax, or lard, into which the lower edges of the cover can be placed to form an air-tight seal.
The invention further consists of the peculiar construction of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specilioatioml have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my improved cooler, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my complete device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the base, and Fig. 8 is a similar sectional view through the cover.
Like letters of reference denote correspond ing parts in all the figures of the drawings, referring to which- Adesignates the base and B the removable cover of my improved cooler.
The base A is constructed with an outer wall a, an inner wall Z), and a pedestal c all made or formed in a single piece. The inner wall b is made smaller than the outer wall a, and is curved concentric therewith to form the intermediate cooling chamber 0, and the upper edges of the inner and outer Walls are joined by the integral web d which is curved
