Description

J. R. HARLOW. TROLLING SPOON.
No.` 520,594. Patented May 29, '1894.
EEIC
PATENT JoHN R. HARLow, on AUBURN, NEW YORK.
`'ROLLINC-SPOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,594, dated May 29, 1894.
Application led October 23. 1 893. Serial No. 488,894. (No model.)
To all whom zit may concern.-
Be it known thatl, JOHN R. HARLOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolling-Spoons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention relates to the class of trolling hooks known as spoon hooks and it consists of a certain novel construction and combination of parts.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my said invention and I have herein disclosed my invention in the following description and claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a View of the spoon attached to aline. Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating the reversible feature of the spoon. Fig. 3 is a view of the snap or spring clip used to attach the spoon to the stem or shaft. i
The principal object of my invention is to enable the spoon to be used either side out and thus enable the user to secure two different surfaces with each spoon.
In the drawings A is the usual stem or shaft having the hook ct secured thereto which may be composed of one or more barbed hooks. The spoon B is made of any of the forms preferred, and is concave on one side and convex on the other. I make it of resilient material so that on pressing upon the convex side it will reverse its form, the convex side becoming the concave. Thespoon is provided With the usual aperture for attaching it to the'stem or'shaft.-
In order to work as desired when reversed the position of the spoon relative to the stem must be changed and in order to provide a means for easily and quickly changing the spoon when reversing it, I attach the same to the stem or shaft by the snap hook or spring clip C. This clip is made from a single piece of wire, and is Yformed by bending the central portion of the wire into a coil upon the shaft, the two ends being formed into a hook and placed one against the other so that the spring coil shall hold them tightly together.
The spoon is quickly and easily placed upon the clip by inserting the apertured end of the spoon between the hooked ends of the clip, and then turning the same so that one of the ends enters the aperture of the spoon, then passing the spoon toward the coil on that hooked end until the other end is passed, When the spoon will be found to be securely held by the clip.
I do not limit myself in the use of this clip to a trolling hook as it may be advantageously used in many other arts.
The surface of the spoon will be made of dierent character or color as desired by the particular user and by reason of its peculiar construction and meansof attachment to the stem can .be readily changed when the user desires, as the spoons are readily placed upon the stem and removed therefrom, the user may provide himself with two or more spoons with four or more dierent surfaces for use as he may choose.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein described concavo convex trolling spoon having its concave side transformable into its convex side at will.
2. The herein described concavo convex trolling spoon havingits two sides provided with different surfaces and havingits convex side transformable into its concave side at
